(After a visit to Giacomo Gaglione) One case per thousand of this form of polyarthritis is given; in my entire career I have met only one and he has died in the concept of holiness; I wish him the same, and as I see, it is to be hoped.

(volume 1, p. 70)
Love the truth, show yourself what you are, and without pretense and without fear and without consideration. And if the truth cost you persecution, and you accept it; and if torment, and you endure it. And if by truth you should sacrifice yourself and your life, and you are strong in sacrifice. (volume 1, p. 108)
I'm ready to lie down in the sick man's own bed! (volume 1, pag. 135)
I believed that all deserving young people, who had set out among the hopes, sacrifices, anxieties of their families, on the path of the most noble medicine, had the right to perfect themselves, reading in a book that was not printed in black and white letters, but which has as its cover hospital beds and laboratory rooms, and as its content the painful flesh of men and scientific material, book that must be read with infinite love and great sacrifice for one's neighbor. I thought it a debt of conscience to educate young people, abhorring the trend of jealously keeping the fruit of one's experience mysterious, but revealing it to them.Io cerco di meritare coi fatti la fiducia in me riposta, e sono lieto portare anche il modesto contributo all'azione con efficacia esplicata dagli eccellenti sanitari di cotesta Opera Pia. (volume 1, p. 146)
I try to earn the trust placed in me with my actions, and I am happy to contribute even the modest contribution to the effective action made by the excellent healthcare workers of this Opera Pia. (volume 1, pp. 243-244)
Remember that with medicine you have taken responsibility for a sublime mission. Persevere, with God in your heart, with the teachings of your father and mother always in your memory, with love and pity for the derelicted, with faith and enthusiasm, deaf to praise and criticism, gloomy to envy, willing only to good.E poi noi altri medici che cosa possiamo? Ben poco! (volume 1, p. 244)
And then what can we other doctors do? Very little! And therefore, not being able to help the body, we help the soul, and in the face of wretched cases, we remember the duties of the spirit that come to us from the faith of our fathers! Scienza e fede! (volume 1, p. 245)
Have, in the mission assigned to you by Providence, always a sense of duty: think, that is, that your sick have above all a soul to which you must know how to approach, and that you must approach God; think that the obligation of love to study looms over you, for only in this way can you fulfill the great mandate to help unhappiness. Science and faith! (volume 1, p. 252)
Persevere in love with the truth, with God who is the truth itself, with all virtues, and so you can carry out your professional exercise, as a mission. (volume 1, pp. 257-258-259)
Success depends on oneself. (volume 1, pp. 259-260)
Not science, but charity has transformed the world, in some periods; and only very few men have gone down in history for science; but all may remain imperishable, a symbol of the eternity of life, in which death is but a stage, a metamorphosis for a higher ascent, if they devote themselves to good. (volume 1, pag. 293)
I have here on my coffee table, among the first flowers of spring, the portrait of your daughter, and I pause, as I write to you, to meditate on the transience of human things! Beauty, every enchantment of life passes... There remains only eternal love, the cause of every good work, which survives us, which is hope and religion, because love is God. Even earthly love Satan tried to pollute, but God purified him through death. Grandiose death which is not an end, but is the principle of the sublime and the divine, in whose presence these flowers and beauty are nothing! Your angel, enraptured in his green years, like his beloved friend, Blessed Teresa, found in her last days, assists you and her mother from heaven. (volume 1, pag. 321)
From my childhood I intended to be transported to the land where the Queen of the Rosary attracted many hearts and performed many wonders. And may she, benign Mother, protect my spirit and my heart in the midst of the thousand dangers I navigate, in this horrible world! As long as I can, I'll take a trip to Pompeii – something that has now been forbidden to me many times by my nagging profession. But as long as I pass by by train fleeing within sight of the sanctuary, to go far away, in consultations, which is very frequent, my gaze and my heart are there, where among the trees one can glimpse the bell tower under construction, at the foot of the ciborium on which the image of the Virgin stands!
Marranzini, Volume 2
Alfredo Marranzini, Giuseppe Moscati (volume 1 e 2), Edizioni ADP, 2008. ISBN 978-88-7357-324-1Amiamo Dio senza misura, senza misura nell'amore, senza misura nel dolore. (volume 2, p. 35)
We love God without measure, without measure in love, without measure in pain. (volume 2, p. 35)
Your love, Jesus, turns me not toward one creature but toward all beings created in your image and likeness. (volume 2, p. 40)
I visited you more as a friend than as a doctor. (volume 2, p. 41)
I hope that with the help of God, who is First Physician, you will be healed immediately. (volume 2, p. 45)
I am a Christian and I remember the maxim of charity. (volume 2, p. 46)
After all, in this world one gathers only ingratitude, and one must marvel at nothing more. (volume 2, pp. 46-47)
It is my habit to speak to the sick of things besides the body, for they also have a soul, but in the special case, the so-called psychoanalysis is a cure; what is psychoanalysis? It is the confession made by the doctor, to undermine fixed ideas. (volume 2, p. 48)
We hope God brings you the joy of your husband's recovery. And let him not turn away from God and frequent the "source of health" (the Holy Communion).Sa benissimo che non sono venuto in casa sua con l'impaludamento del medico, ma come un tale, un amico, il quale per avventura abbia avuto qualche cognizione dell'arte stregata della medicina. (volume 2, p. 50)
He knows very well that I did not come to his house with the doctor's swamping, but as such, a friend, who by adventure had some knowledge of the enchanted art of medicine. (volume 2, p. 64)
You will feel, in life, not the abandonment, but the arcane assistance of being loved gone! (volume 2, p. 67)
Above squabbles, gossip, and lusts, Christian charity must inspire us. (volume 2, p. 68)
Our science, if it were all cold and destined only to maintain the minute pleasures of the body, what good would it be? She would be a handmaiden of materialism and selfishness! And therefore to protect her from such accusation, we doctors, in supreme moments, remember that we have before us, in addition to a body, a soul, a creature of God. I assure you that through my various studies, and the knowledge of the various peoples of Europe and their customs, I have increasingly rooted the belief in the beyond; human ingenuity so powerful, capable of manifestations of beauty and truth and good, can only be divine, and the human soul and thought must return to God.Voglio ancora una volta animare la vostra speranza, trasformandola in sicurezza: guarirete! (volume 2, p. 71)
I want once again to animate your hope, transforming it into security: you will heal! God will then ask you to account for the life He will give you. And when between now and a thousand years, you appear in His Presence, you must be able to answer: Lord I have fulfilled my day well! I have operated for your greatest glory! So you will recover, but patience takes and time. Don't forget to feed the soul, in the S. Communion, as you nourish, and it is your essential duty, the body. (volume 2, p. 73)
He who does not abandon God will always have a guide in life, safe and upright. Deviations, temptations, and passions will not prevail to move him who has made the work and science of which the initium est timor Domini his ideal. (volume 2, p. 76)
Regarding the fee, since it is, as you tell me, a pitiful case, I have nothing to wish for, except perhaps a refund for the trip. After knowing the pitiful case, I wouldn't take money, even if they cut off my hands. But for me the great reward is spending a day with happy and nice friends. (volume 2, p. 107)
My success does not mean my victory, but the victory of a whole party of friends, close to each other. Today the individual no longer has any probability of success, except when he has understood that he must be part of a chain, his merit consists only in knowing how to choose the chain, of which he must become a link. (volume 2, p. 113)
Error is possible, but it shouldn't happen in the hospital.
UnreferencedLa prima medicina, l'infinito Amore. The first medicine, infinite Love. Science promises us well-being and everything at most pleasure; religion and faith give us the balm of consolation and true happiness, which is one with morality and a sense of duty. The doctor then finds himself in a position of privilege, because he so often finds himself in the presence of souls who, despite their past mistakes, are there to capitulate and return to the principles inherited from their ancestors, they are there eager to find comfort, tormented by pain. Blessed is that doctor who knows how to understand the mystery of these hearts and inflame them again. But it is undoubted that true perfection cannot be found except by estrangement from the things of the world, by serving God with continual love, and by serving the souls of one's brothers by prayer, by example, for a great purpose, for the only purpose which is their salvation.
Oh if young people, in their exuberance, knew that illusions of love, mostly the fruit of a lively exaltation of the senses, are fleeting! And if an Angel warned them, who so easily swear eternal fidelity to illegitimate affections, in the delirium of which they are taken, that all that is impure love must die, because it is evil, they would suffer less and be better. We notice it at a later age, when we approach, due to human events, by chance, the fire that had set us alight and no longer warms us.
