Sthembiso Ngcobo (born 24 September 1983 in Durban) is a South African association football striker for Premier Soccer League club Free State Stars, Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Bidvest Wits. Quotes Ndwedwe, being a remote area, had a lot of talent that was lost due to it being so far away from town. I come from a place where there is no electricity, no water and life was hard growing up. We played football in any open space…put stones as goal posts I need to play two or three games in a row for me to get confidence. I have been in and out of the team for now and that is not helping my confidence at Chiefs, every game is like a cup final and one needs to be at his best all the time. I need to work harder at training to convince the Technical Staff here at Chiefs and Bafana Bafana that I have what it takes to deliver. I do not want to make comparisons between the two clubs. Chiefs is one of the biggest Clubs in the country and everything here is professional. It is my upbringing that is helping me to cope with the life in Johannesburg. I can go out from time to time but then I cannot mix that with work. If you have watched our games you would have noticed that we attack from the first minute…the coach wanted us to continue with that. He never said we should go out there and defend. It was unfortunate that Pirates came out attacking and things did not work out on the day. Pressure is the name of the game and I am sure I have what it takes to handle the pressure here. I need to play regularly and I am busy now trying to convince the coach at training for me to start games. I need to work on target shooting and my positioning. I watch their movement on and off the ball. I am learning a lot from the guys in Europe and from the guys here at home. It is my wish to take my game to the next level and I have no doubt that I am in a right Club to achieve just that. Keeping in touch with your favourite player – Sthembiso Ngcobo, October 2010, Kaiser Chiefs FB Magazine, by Staff It's been such a long time since I played week in and week out. If I'm not mistaken, the last time that happened was when I was still playing for Free State Stars many seasons ago. I would like to thank Gavin for giving me the chance to play. It's a pity that I have only started playing for him now during the twilight of my career, but I'm glad that this chance finally came. I'm looking forward to repaying his faith in me by banging in goals for Wits Sthembiso Ngcobo Happy With His Goal-scoring Form, April 2014, Soccer Laduma by Khaya Ndubane Definitely not the same because back then during our playing days life was good with lots of money guaranteed at the end of the month [In retirement] Right now, it is no longer the same Right now, you must think like an adult and be careful about spending habits. I was ready when I took the decision to retire but then I must admit that it is no longer the same in terms of the lifestyle and all of that. I can't lie and say I never made any bad financial decisions along the way. However, I wouldn't say I made a lot of those kind of bad decisions because everything that I did I did it aware of that football will come to an end. I always had the future in mind even though I also did do what all others were doing in going out and having fun though not going to extremes I had to be always worried about the fact that I come from rural areas I didn't change cars a lot even though I do love cars. I came from a house built out of mud and having grown up in those circumstances helped me because I knew how much I don't want to back to those circumstances It is good to speak about these things so that the younger ones learn, and we don't have to end up singing the same tune for generations and become a laughing stock It is true that there are some who were reckless but not all of us because it is not everyone who earned big money while playing The modern game demands that you don't just rely on the fact that you played but also make the effort to learn about coaching because there is a lot to gain. You don't have to have played the game at the highest level to be able to coach and Rulani Mokwena is a perfect example, 'I will be lying if I said I don’t remember the money', November 2024, KICKOFF by Lovemore Moyo if you look at the way we have been playing the midfielders are laying on a lot of chances for the attackers and it helps when you a striker and been fed the ball that often. Taking that into account I am hopeful that soon enough I will be able to break the drought. When I came to Chiefs I knew that it would be a challenge to immediately be in the start line up, just as important as starting is to make sure that even if I enter the match as a substitute I can help make a difference. Everyone in the squad is aware that they have a role to play and I need to make sure that when it is my turn to fulfill the task I have been handed I am ready to do so, like I said to over any challenge you have to feel that you ready to conuer it and I feel that way right now Life looking up for Ngcobo, September 2010, Kaizer Chiefs FB Magazine by Sports Reporter External links Category:1983 births Category:Soccer players from South Africa Category:Living people
