Willard Katsande (born 15 January 1986 in Mutoko) is a Zimbabwean retired professional footballer and coach, a former player of South African Premiership club Kaizer Chiefs and the Zimbabwe national team. He also played with Premiership sides Ajax Cape Town and Sekhukhune United. Quotes The interesting thing about our run in the Caf Champions League this season is that people never gave us a chance. We carried the underdog tag from day one. After we won the first game against Wydad, we managed to draw the second one at home. We used the experience because we kept on learning and this season was the turning point in terms of our Champions League fortunes We were not doing well domestically and gave our supporters a bad impression Kaizer Chiefs proved the doubters wrong, says Willard Katsande after reaching CAF champions League final, September 2021,IOL by Mihlali Baleka I think going forward we just need to work on our execution like the coach said. We just need to be more clinical in front of the goal. But all is not lost. We know that there's pressure out there, we just need to do good. We can only affect the future and whatever happened (against Maritzburg) we don't have power over it. The only thing we can affect is the future which is the next game. Now we need to go back to the drawing board and try and rectify one or two things. We managed to create a few chances, which is positive and a plus to us because if we were not getting there to the final third that was going to be a big mountain to climb But we are getting there, and we just need the finesse, which is the final touch. But I think with time, processes, I think it'll come right. Katsande: It's a matter of time before Kaizer Chiefs start winning, August 2018,IOL, by Keagan Buchanan I’m not saying the previous coach (Vermezovic) was bad, but the guys were not free to ask where do we improve, or where to go or something like that. We could not approach him. Last season, we were performing but not performing good enough. We were not performing to our best. And you could see that the guys were scared to showcase themselves He has helped us and he has instilled confidence in us. We are there to work for him and we are there to make him happy. He is the best for us that’s why we are doing well. He (Nengomasha) is one of the guys I have looked up to, but I don’t want to be compared to him. There are things that I can’t do that he can does expertly, and there are things he can’t do that I do. I can’t mention them, though. Football is a funny game. Who knows, maybe I will do even better than him and win more trophies than he did with Chiefs. To be honest, I did not think a club like Chiefs would come looking for me. Who wants to sign a player who is not playing regularly? Chiefs are a big club and they can’t afford to sign a player who is sitting on the bench – Maybe if I was coming from Europe, they would take a risk. She’ll certainly be proud of her son, who is looking to join a long list of Zimbabwean players to have done well in the PSL. – The Star Katsande flourishing under Baxter, September 2012,IOL, by Duif du Toit External links Category:Football (soccer) coaches Category:Soccer players from Zimbabwe Category:Living people Category:1986 births
