thumb|Carto in 1958 Willis Allison Carto (July 17, 1926 – October 26, 2015) was an American far-right political activist. He described himself as a Jeffersonian and a populist, but was primarily known for his promotion of antisemitic conspiracy theories and Holocaust denial. Throughout his life, Carto established and controlled a variety of right-wing organizations and periodicals, most significantly the Liberty Lobby. Quotes [My military service was] to fight for the glorious democracy of my country, the survival of Soviet communism, a third and fourth term for Roosevelt, a chance to kill Germans by the thousands as desired by Churchill, Eisenhower and the Zionists, part of Palestine for them as a bonus, vast riches for the bankers and war suppliers, coffin makers and flag makers. Quoted in American Free Press obit, quoted by SPLC https://www.splcenter.org/resources/reports/key-holocaust-denier-and-anti-semitic-publisher-dies-89/ 1950s There are 600 million Chinese and about 200 million Russians. All united in a determination to destroy the West. And we have been so misled that we live in a dream world—far away from reality. Hitler's defeat was the defeat of Europe. And of America. How could we have been so blind? The blame, it seems, must be laid at the door of the international Jews. It was their propaganda, lies and demands which blinded the West to what Germany was doing. If Satan himself, with all of his superhuman genius and diabolical ingenuity at his command, had tried to create a permanent disintegration and force for the destruction of the nations, he could have done no better than to invent the Jews. 1950s letter to Norris Holt, published by syndicated columnist Drew Peason on October 24, 1966, quoted in ADL article and in C. H. Simonds, (September 10, 1971). "The Strange Story of Willis Carto: His Fronts, His Friends, His Philosophy, His "Lobby for Patriotism"". National Review. Vol. XXIII, no. 35. p. 978. Who is using who? Who is calling the shots? History supplies the answer to this. History tells us plainly who our Enemy is. Our Enemy today is the same Enemy of 50 years ago and before—and that was before Communism. The Communists are "using" the Jews we are told [...] who was "using" the Jews fifty years ago—one hundred or one thousand years ago. History supplies the answer. The Jews came first and remain Public Enemy No. 1. 1950s memo to himself, quoted in Simonds 1971 The strangest of all strange things and the most unfair of all the unfair things brought on by Jewish control of American politics concerns the alleged recipient of buckets and buckets of hypocritical Jewish concern and sympathy–the American Negro! Jewish control over so-called 'Negro' organizations like the NAACP and the Urban League is so complete and has been identified so closely yet fraudulently in the public mind with the legitimate aims and aspirations of the American Negro that only few white Americans realize the truth about the fantastic trickery which brought this about. Only a few Negroes are genuinely in accord with the troublemaking policies of these two race-mixing organizations. It is a sad, yet significant fact that both of these fraudulent outfits prosper by using the brains of Jews, the money of Jews and duped white Christians and the 'front' of raceless mulatto figureheads. But hardly a Negro in the lot! 1950s mimeographed statement, published by syndicated columnist Drew Peason on October 24, 1966 Living in the North, as I do, with its heterogeneous population of minorities, brainwashed whites and self-seeking, shortsighted prostitute politicians, it is not too hard to conclude that the Negro problem is the very keystone to the whole dirty scheme to destroy America. The Negro is needed as the most effective tool he has, by the enemy. Without the Negro, without the sympathy he can stir up in his behalf, without the votes that the Negro and Negro-lovers represent, without the equalitarian theories and legislation or court decisions brought on by this tearful sympathy for the Negroes, the revolutionaries would be lost. Therefore, in striking right at the heart of the race problem, we are also striking at the heart of the whole subversive scheme against America. 1950s letter to Robert B. Patterson, published by syndicated columnist Drew Peason on October 24, 1966 1960s I know now that the only real crime of Francis Parker Yockey was to write a book, and for this he had to die. It is always impossible, of course, to come to grips with the essence of greatness. There are known facts of a great life, but facts are dead and almost mute when we seek the essential reality of a creative personality. Introduction to the 1963 Noontide Press edition of Yockey's book Imperium, p. i, quoted in The Farther Shores of Politics, 1968 Neo-Spenglerians who are attuned to the racial view of history (call them "racists" for convenience) hold that the "final" phase of a Culture—the imperialistic stage—is final only because the cultural organism destroys its body and kills its soul by this process. Introduction to Imperium (1963), p. xiv How the press, for example, loves to brag to its victims—its readers—about its freedom. Yes, the press may be free to lie and distort and suppress and deceive and malign, but is it free to tell the truth? Introduction to Imperium (1963), p. xv Please allow me to expose to you my prejudice so that there will be no misunderstanding. I favor the survival of our Western cultural organism. I love those who fight for the integrity of the West, whoever they may be. And, as much as I fear and mistrust the outer enemies of the West, I despise our inner enemies and the cowards who support them far more—and I hate their putrid doctrine that calls our continuing degradation "inevitable." Introduction to Imperium (1963), pp. xviii–xix The failure to provide this philosophy is not alone the fault of the saprophytes among us, however. Nor is it only the fault of the chameleon-like inner enemy of the West (the Culture Distorter; to use Yockey’s apt term) which mercilessly persecutes and smashes all who dare to cry out against our rapid decline and degeneration; in all truth, it is mainly the fault of the many thousands who fully know the issues at stake yet have not the moral courage to identify and light the Culture Distorter; or—worse yet—who have, by diligent self-persuasion, convinced themselves that the battle for survival against an enemy that demands nothing less than total surrender can be fought and won with tax-deductible corporations, measured, “moderate” words and avoidance of “extremists.” These dainty combatants swarm over every anti-communist movement like ants on sugar. By shrilly demonstrating their anti-communism they bribe their consciences to give them peace and often go so far as to join in the crucifixion of those few with moral courage lest they, too, be adjudged "guilty" by association. America has too many of such anti-communists and too few real patriots. Introduction to Imperium (1963), pp. xx–xxi This psychological block runs deep in the West—so deep that it is an error which is apparent in all philosophical strata, certainly not only the leftist variety. Name any philosopher, economist or religious adept of Western history, except Hegel * (yes, even including Spengler) and you are virtually certain to find a man who sought to lay universal laws of human behavior; who, in other words, saw no essential difference between races. This error is so fundamental it is usually unconscious. Introduction to Imperium (1963), p. xxviii 1970s Your highest patriotism today is to respect the memory of those who have died in the uniform of their country by vowing that it will never happen again. The basest treason is to permit yourself to shamefully and cowardly follow the false patriots into another war, one surely bringing in its wake even greater disasters for our beloved America than any before. The Spotlight editorial, May 28, 1979 1980s Has Christianity done anything to diminish intra-European warfare as compared with a thousand years ago—before the religion of the man from Galilee became official? I think not. The rivers of blood shed by Charlemagne and other ambitious zealots while converting our heathen, polytheistic European forefathers was far less than the oceans of gore that have been drawn by Christian from Christian since our people embraced the faith [...] Very good reasons may exist to justify "Christianity" but universal unity is decidedly not one of them [...] Ironically, a monistic religion creates more division, schism and enmity among its professors than a polytheistic one because the intolerant mood which it creates suffers no deviation from the "one" true faith. Introduction to the Noontide edition of Nietzsche's The Anti-Christ (1980), quoted in Michael (2008), p. 150 The nationalist, however loves his own kind as the extension of his family, realizing that universal values are primitive values or no values at all; that men can be free and content only within their native cultural environment. This profound insight completely escapes the immature internationalists. Profiles in Populism (1982), pp. 195–196 The purpose of history, as I see it, is to uncover the forces which move the pawns on the chess board of the world. This and only this is real history, and anything else, in the final analysis, is of no intrinsic value. "Toward History", 1983 International Revisionist Conference paper, published in The Journal of Historical Review, Spring 1984, p. 10 1990s History is old news and news is new history. If it’s not the one it can’t be—or shouldn’t be—the other. True, real news, like real history, is very controversial in this day of the politicalization of both. So what is more appropriate than for THE BARNES REVIEW to be assisted by the staff of the one American newspaper, The SPOTLIGHT, which has proven, over a score of years, to be far ahead of the rest of the news media in reporting events which are of undeniable meaning and significance to Americans—if not to everyone else on the planet—but which are habitually hushed up by that same media which touts myth and lies as history? "Only the Truth Can Make Us Free", October 1994, The Barnes Review, vol 1, no. 1, p. 2, quoted in ADL article 2000s Without a means of confronting the onrushing third world, white civilization is doomed. It can do nothing else but deteriorate to a third world level with all that implies: the final triumph of liberalism; political correctness; a garbage culture; poverty; the extermination of the middle class and then Marxism. It means Jewish political and cultural domination, including a political tyranny comparable to Stalinism. "Is Christianity Relevant?", The Barnes Review, February 2007, p. 53, quoted by SPLC The Israelis literally control our press all except a few of us, the American Free Press and The Barnes Review and a few other patriotic, independent publications around the country. They control our Congress [...] [A]ny one of them [members of Congress] is liable to rise up on the floor at anytime and deliver a speech praising Jews and Zionists and Blacks and Indians and heaven only knows, but can you imagine any one of them standing up and praising White Christians? Interview with Michael Collins Piper, April 20, 2007, quoted by SPLC Wars and rumors of wars are extremely profitable for the real rulers of this country and the media that support them. Against all considerations of national interest and without a shred of constitutional authority, the Bush administration attacked Iraq, a highly civilized, independent, stable country with 6,000 years of proud history. "U.S. Takes More Steps Toward War with Iran", American Free Press, Issue #45, November 5, 2007 Quotes about Carto Most Americans have never heard of Willis Carto. Although he has been for over fifty years an active leader in what is often called the "far right," he remains to this day a relatively obscure figure even among those who study American politics. Over the past several decades, he has raised millions of dollars for his causes, yet he has received very little national publicity and has been virtually ignored by the mainstream press. Despite this obscurity, Carto is undoubtedly the central figure in the post-World War II American far right. More than any other person, he has fostered continuity within this movement and has been involved in virtually all of its major projects. George Michael, Willis Carto and the American Far Right, 2008, p. 1 Like Yockey at their meeting, Carto is a shadow—a furtive man of middle height and middle build who shuns reporters, hates to have his picture taken, prefers to control his empire from behind the scenes while others front for him. His friendships are few and brief, degenerating usually into acrimony. He favors 75-cent haircuts and $40 suits, and once raged at an employee for buying a gross of paperclips. He delights in secrecy, conspiracy, and power. He is every bit as "strange and lonely" a man as his hero. C. H. Simonds, (September 10, 1971). "The Strange Story of Willis Carto: His Fronts, His Friends, His Philosophy, His "Lobby for Patriotism"". National Review. Vol. XXIII, no. 35. p. 978. Although probably not more than one in a hundred Spotlight readers is even aware of who he is, the shadowy Carto has clashed with an impressive list of conservatives, nationalists, populists, racialists, and religious conservatives. Although the following list is not complete, it gives a good idea of some of the individuals and organizations Carto has clashed with or attacked over the years:Eustace Mullins, Harold Covington, Tom Metzger, George Dietz, Dr. Revilo Oliver, Dr. Edward Fields, Ben Klassen, David McCalden, Michael Hoffman, Robert DePugh, Dr. William Pierce, the John Birch Society, John Rees, William F. Buckley, Robert Bork, Reed Irvine, Human Events, Richard Vigurie, Rep. Vin Weber, Rep. Robert K. Doman, Rep. Newt Gingrich, Jerry Falwell, Moral Majority, Pat Robertson, Jim Yarborough, Bob Richards, Don Kimball, Don Wassall, Pat Buchanan, and David Duke.
