Vincent Dumisani Ngobe (born 5 March 1973) is a South African former professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. He played 32 times for the South Africa national team and works currently as head of development for Mpumalanga Black Aces. Quotes The coach at the time said I was not a good player and I was always on the bench. I was signed by the chairman of the club, not the coach. The coach said I was not good, so I did not play even a single game. I was helped by Trott Moloto, who was the Bafana Bafana coach at the time. He included me in the AFCON squad in 2000. I remember people here at home asking Trott why I was selected even though I was not playing in Turkey, but he believed in me. Before I left for AFCON, Gençlerbirligi asked me to sign a power of attorney because they wanted to release me because I was not playing. They sold me to Ankaragücü, who were in the relegation zone. I signed the power of attorney, so that they could do the deal while I was away. I went to AFCON and scored in the first game (against Gabon) and we won it. Things changed from then. Back in Turkey, they were surprised that the person they said was not good enough was scoring at AFCON. So, they fired the coach who said I was not good enough because they had already sold me to Ankaragücü, based on the statement from the coach that I was not good enough. That game (against Gabon) changed things. I played for Ankaragücü and we saved it from relegation and I became a key player there. I was gaining weight because I was comfortable, so I asked the chairman to release me and to have a change of scenery. He asked for some time to think about it, but I think the chairman felt that it would be better for me to go overseas rather than stay here. I think he used his contacts for me to go there. I went on trial there and I signed a contract, without the coach knowing. Turkey is a Muslim country and they were not used to seeing black people. They wanted to touch my skin because they were not used to seeing a black person. But I understood because they did not come to me with disrespect. After a while, I got used to the environment there. My best moment was during my second season at Ankaragücü, where I was dominating in the middle. They did not want me to come play for the national team because I had become a key player for them. It showed how important I was for the team. Ngobe: They Were Not Used To Seeing Black People, November 2024, Soccer Laduma by Tshepang Mailwane You see the main difference is the player attitude. Sundowns' players know how to fight on the field of play. When they lose ball possession they recover it very fast to win the ball back and attack. You know it's the players who win games and not the coaches Yes, Rulani Mokwena is a very good coach who has his players who play for him and the team. So, other teams should learn that from Sundowns' players. Then where are the analysts for other teams? How can't they analyse how to stop Sundowns? They should not just look at their own mistakes but also what mistakes Sundowns make and where they can be punished. But for now I can easily and freely say Sundowns are winning the league title again this season. If the players of other teams don't follow Sundowns' players' attitude then Sundowns will continue winning the league for as long as they can. As I have said, players win games not coaches Everyone at Sundowns is motivated. Look, they just won about R75million but they don't stop fighting. All the other teams should learn from that and aim to win the league title and other trophies as well, not just fight relegation all the time and just be happy to be among the 16 teams. That's the Sundowns difference, 'If Chiefs & Pirates Don't Stop Downs Then Who Will?', December 2023, Soccer Laduma by Soccer Laduma Writer You should remember that in the Premier League now there is no easy team, and if you want to win the title then you have to minimise your losses. Your losses should be draws. A team that wins the league normally doesn't have two losses (so quickly). Now they are already two down. And how many draws will there be? Six points are a lot. It's not a good thing. We cannot lie, the team signed players, but there is something you don't understand, the team last year was challenging for the title with good players. Why don't you keep the same players and have consistency? It will take time for them to understand each other. It will take maybe four or five games, and they would have lost how many points? Football doesn't want you to be desperate. It needs you to be consistent. You only fix where you see that there is a need to fix. Ngobe: I Didn't See Anything Wrong With Pirates' Squad, August 2025, Soccer Laduma by SL Writer It woke me up and I have worked very hard at my game, and now that change in attitude is paying dividends. Football, like any other profession, is about how much you put in. And what you put in, you get out. Turkey has made me a lot more focused," said Ngobe. "The game is a lot more professional there; it's a business and you are expected to deliver quality performances for the amount of money they are paying you. My motivation was extremely high coming in to the tournament, I was determined to do well, not only because of some of the negative criticism directed at me, but mostly for myself - to prove that I can crack it at this level We have always said that six points will settle us for the quarterfinals, so that makes Thursday's encounter against the Democratic Republic of Congo very important. The one weakness in the squad at the moment seems to be a lack of confidence. We tend to rush when we have possession, and perhaps a little more composure will be more effective. But we have a good blend of experience and youth which is slowly starting to jell. There has been lots of talk about the physical strength of the other African sides, but because of that they lack pace. We have pace aplenty in the squad, so I think our mobility will give us a huge advantage against the top sides in the tournament.
