Pope Julius III (Latin: Iulius; Italian: Giulio; 10 September 1487 – 23 March 1555), born Giovanni Maria Ciocchi del Monte, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 22 February 1550 to his death, in March 1555.
Quotes about Julius III
The great blemish in his pontificate was nepotism. Shortly after his accession he bestowed the purple on his unworthy favourite Innocenzo del Monte, a youth of seventeen whom he had picked up on the streets of Parma some years previously, and who had been adopted by the pope's brother, Balduino. This act gave rise to some very disagreeable rumours concerning the pope's relation to Innocenzo.
Michael Ott, "Julius III, Pope", The Catholic Encyclopedia, vol. 8 (New York, 1913), p. 564
Dans le conclave même, il pratiquait l'acte de sodomie avec les jeunes pages attachés à son service, et loin d'en faire un mystère, il affectait de se laisser surprendre en flagrant délit par ses collègues.
