In the Lost Lands is a 2025 German-Swiss-American-Polish-Canadian science-fiction-action post-apocalyptic fantasy film, about a queen sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power, where the sorceress and her guide, the drifter Boyce, must outwit and outfight man and demon. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and co-written by Constantin Werner and George R.R. Martin. She seeks the power to free her people. (taglines) The Hunter Boyce [opening lines] If you've got the time and stomach for it, I've got a story for you. A tale of magic and witches, of quests and of monsters. Of good and evil. But make no mistake, this is no fairy tale. And there are no happy endings. The world you know is gone, consumed by the flames of a great war long ago when death rained from the sky. All that's left now are the Lost Lands, filled with twisted creatures that dwell in the shadows. What remains of humanity takes refuge in a single city. Long ago, a mysterious witch, Gray Alys, emerged from the Lost Lands. This is the story of how we met and how she saved the both of us. If a man wanted to ambush another man, this would be the perfect spot. Jump him while his eyes were still adjusting to the dark. Maybe even bring three, four friends. Make sure the job got done right. [Four goons appear] The stronger the spirits, the weaker the senses. [referring to shotgun] This thing has never worked. [two-headed snake coils around gun] But this never fails. [referring to The Enforcer Ash] That bitch killed my snakeǃ [raises dagger over Alys who holds a knife to Boyce's throat] A clever man might choose to kill his client on the road... [Alys presses knife] ...and take his payment early. [stabs tarantula] But no one ever accused me of being a clever man. [after extracting The Enforcer Ash's bullet from shoulder] I think I'd like to pass out now. Gray Alys I refuse no one. They say you can buy anything you might desire from Gray Alys. But it is better not to. No. It's just an illusion... to distract you. To leave you vulnerable. The Enforcer Ash [about to be hanged by Gray Alys who used witch powers to trade places] Witchǃ I will find youǃ You will burn in hellǃ You will burn in hell, witchǃ [in train about to run her down] Repent, witchǃ [train careens off collapsed bridge] Noǃ The People Down with the Overlord. Down with the Church. Pit miners [chanting in unison with Gray Alys walking through their crowd] The witch that will not hang. The Patriarch [delivering sermon] No one shall defy the church. It is the Church that protects the peace of this city with its laws. The Church that puts fear into the hearts of the godless. The Church that keeps the evils of the Lost Lands at bay. We are God's instruments, placed on this earth to protect you from such evils. Hunt down the sinners, the heretics, and the witches. Bring them to me and you shall be rewarded. [The Enforcer Ash and train conductor] The dirty whore sits upon the throne of the city. An affront to all that is good and pure. Our time is running out. Her power grows stronger by the day. Find me the witch. Bring me her confession. Then the witch and the whore will hang together. But hurry. Do you hear me? Hurry! Jerais [after stabbing The Patriarch] In the name of the Overlord, protector of the City Under The Mountain, I hereby sentence you, Patriarch, to death. Demon King [after fight with demon mobbers] Gray Alys. You should not have come back here. Dialogue The Enforcer Ash: [regarding Gray about to hanged] Stop your work, stop your workǃ Let this be an example to allǃ No one can defy the churchǃ They say you can buy anything you might desire from Gray Alysǃ But it's better not to. And still the people seek your help. They're ignorant, uneducated. Gray Alys: Some are poor, some are rich. All are desperate. I refuse no one. The Enforcer Ash: Do you know what the church says about the likes of you? Gray Alys: I'm sure you're going to tell me. The Enforcer Ash: That you are of the devil and it's our duty to rule you out. In the name of the Overlord, ruler of the City Under The Mountain. High Priest of the Faith, I sentence you, Gray Alys, to dath by hanging. [kicks out cross] Repent, woman. Subordinate: [hallucinating] What is happening to me? The Enforcer Ash: You cannot be trusted. You are a slave to the witch. [slits subordinate's throat, to other subordinates] Hunt her down. Old woman: Gray Alys. Gray Alys: Did you recognize my footsteps? Old woman: No, your kindness. This city gets worse and worse but you have always been so generous ever since I was a child. Gray Alys: Only to you. You never ask anything of me. Old woman: Strange. You sound no different to when I was young, but you must be old now like me. Gray Alys: Older. Much older. Gray Alys: [approaches] I hear you're a hunter, that you travel the Lost Lands. I have use of such a man. The Hunter Boyce: Came here to play cards, not talk. Gray Alys: [reveals card hands of 3 aces] You ready to talk now? What's your name? The Hunter Boyce: Boyce. Gray Alys: I'm looking for a guide. Someone who knows the Lost Lands. The Hunter Boyce: I'm expensive. Gray Alys: I have money. The Hunter Boyce: I know you do. Most of it's mine. Gray Alys: Are you worth it? The Hunter Boyce: Would you be here talking to me if I wasn't? The Lost Lands are no place for city folk. Gray Alys: Why is that? The Hunter Boyce: Because they're weak. Gray Alys: Do I look weak to you? The Hunter Boyce: Look. Outside these walls, the laws of the city, of man. even of nature, they don't apply. So whoever you think you are here, out there you'd just be a hindrance. Gray Alys: Let's make a deal. If I ever slow you down, you have my permission to leave me behind. And I'll do the same to you. The Hunter Boyce: Why do you want to leave the city? Gray Alys: I'm looking for a man who can turn into a beast. The Hunter Boyce: All men are beasts. Gray Alys: But not all men are monsters. The Hunter Boyce: You're looking for a shapeshifter. Gray Alys: Yes. I need to kill it in its lair to take its power. The Hunter Boyce: I've heard of such a man. Gray Alys: What you know of him? The Hunter Boyce: They call hm Sardor, the Great Wolf. Gray Alys: What does this man, this Sardor, live? The Hunter Boyce: In a place called Skull River. Gray Alys: [to self] Skull River. [aloud] That's my destination. The Hunter Boyce: Not many have travelled there. No one's come back. Gray Alys: Guide me... [opens hand to reveal watch] ...and this can be yours. The Hunter Boyce: I've heard of these. Never seen one. I'll take it. And the coin you stole me. Gray Alys: You'll receive your payment once I get to Skull River. The Hunter Boyce: [Knights Templar enter bar] Friends of yours? Gray Alys: Yeah, I don't have many friends. The Hunter Boyce: Me neither. Gray Alys: I never saw a man get emotional about a snake before. The Hunter Boyce: I'm not emotional, it just... It was just a damn good snake, that's all. Gray Alys: [hands over shotgun] Here. The pin was bent. It should work well now. As long as you stop beating men to death with it. The Hunter Boyce: It won't be easy. Gray Alys: If it was going to be easy, I wouldn't need you. The Enforcer Ash: [regarding hanging victims] No one shall defy the church. The Hunter Boyce: [screams] You say you're servants of God?ǃ What kind of God is this?ǃ The Enforcer Ash: [smirking] The vengeful kind. The Hunter Boyce: [to Gray Alys] You came here looking for a monster. Now you found one. The Enforcer Ash: Behold. An resurrection. [her goons engage Boyce in a gun fight] The Hunter Boyce: [referring to sniper attack of The Enforcer Ash] Why didn't she finish me? Gray Alys: [places hand on Boyce's shoulder] She tried. The Hunter Boyce: A witch, indeed. Young Monk: [referring to Boyce and Gray fleeing] They'll be headed for the mountains. The Enforcer Ash: No. Hell is where they're headed. Gray Alys: You're thinking about your friends? I'm sorry. The Hunter Boyce: Ross was a good man. Known him a long time. Mara. I'm going to kill them for what they did. Gray Alys: Why do you travel out here, Boyce? The Hunter Boyce: I love the city, the people, a strong drink, good food. Yet a part of me only feels at home here. Listening to the wind. Watching the shadows. See there, Gray Alys? [referring to fire in clouds] See the way the lights shimmer and shift? You can see shapes in them if you look long enough. Gray Alys: Yes. It's beautiful. The Hunter Boyce: I knew you'd see. We're alike, you and I. In our blood. We're two of a kind. I could see it in your eyes. The Hunter Boyce: [referring to fight with demons] The fire from your hands, I didn't feel it. Gray Alys: There was no fire. It couldn't have hurt us, but to them the illusion was real enough. The Hunter Boyce: Why do you suffer then? Gray Alys: The powers I wield come at a price. The Hunter Boyce: I heard the monster talking to you. Gray Alys: He knew me. A long time ago. The Hunter Boyce: How? Gray Alys: There is a great treasure inside of this place. An immense power. A man came to me. He was greedy, power hungry. They all are. But I can refuse no one, so I helped him. But this place is poison. It turned him and his men into what you saw. He shouldn't have asked me for help. No one should ever ask me for help. I should just be left alone. The Hunter Boyce: You're with me now. The Patriarch: [addressing pit miners] The Overlord is dead, but the queen is with child! All hail the new Overlord! [pit miners are silently indifferent and Jerais fires into the air with pit miners gasping and screaming] The Patriarch: The Overlord is dead! Pit miners: [drone in unison] All hail the new Overlord. The Patriarch: And all hail the queenǃ Pit miners: [drone in unison] All hail the queen. The Patriarch: [approaches her at throne] Hail the Overlord and hail the queen. The Queen: Thank you, Patriarch. Now we both have what we wanted. You have your heir and I have his power. The Patriarch: Sixteen years until your child will be of age. We couldn't ask for his authority to be in better hands. The Queen: You are too kind. I wouldn't have anything, Patriarch, not without your wise advice and unfailing support. I hope that will never change. The Patriarch: Your loyal servant. Always. Gray Alys: Will he be there? The Hunter Boyce: Sardor? I don't know. I hope not. Gray Alys: I need to face him alone. The Hunter Boyce: Then you will die. Gray Alys: One always has to die. The Hunter Boyce: This is madness. Gray Alys: You should leave. [holds out hand with watch] You did what I paid you to do. The Hunter Boyce: [closes her hand] I never should have accepted your offer. Gray Alys: But you did. Leave, Boyce. Save yourself. The Hunter Boyce: No. Forget this. Turn around. Gray Alys: I cannot. The Hunter Boyce: Why? Gray Alys: Because I have no choice. No one should ever ask me for help. The Hunter Boyce: Gray. Come back. With me. Gray Alys: Don't you understand, Boyce? I'm cursed. No one should ever get close to me. The Hunter Boyce: I don't care. The Queen: The Patriarch calling to the faithful. [turns and walks to Jerais] This is the moment we've been working for. What we've been dreaming of since we were small, looking up at this place. But he can take it all away from us. Jerais: My Overwatch outnumber his men now. The Queen: But he is still dangerous. Would you do anything for me? Jerais: Anything. The Queen: [caresses his face] You are my good soldier. [kisses him] The Hunter Boyce: Your weapons will be useless. They've come against him with silver. Silver swords, silver knives, arrows tipped with silver. They're all dust now, all those brave, silvered warriors. Please, don't do this. We have no choice. Gray Alys: I think he is very close now, Boyce. The Hunter Boyce: What say you? Gray Alys: Not yet. The Hunter Boyce: There's still time, Gray. Gray Alys: I think you lie, hunter! There was never any Sardorǃ Only youǃ The Hunter Boyce: You knew? You knew what I was? I cared for you. All this time, you tried to deceive meǃ Gray Alys: You thought you could bring me here and kill me like the rest! The Hunter Boyce: You shouldn't have ever come here- here, Gray Alysǃ I tried to warn youǃ [transforms into werewolf and fights Gray] Gray Alys: [gives Boyce a drink and caresses him] Calm. You need to rest while the moon is still covered. The Hunter Boyce: You have a gift I'd kill for. You change at will, full moon or not. Gray Alys: No. It was just an illusion. To distract you, to leave you vulnerable. The Hunter Boyce: We're the same, Gray. Don't you see? Gray Alys: Yes. The Hunter Boyce: Two of a kind. Gray Alys: You are still weak. Sleep. The Hunter Boyce: [wakes up chained down] Untie me. I don't understand. Why? You saved me. Gray Alys: You would not like my answer, Boyce. The Hunter Boyce: It's the moon. Are you afraid of what'll happen if I change again? I won't harm you, Gray Alys. Not now. Gray Alys: I do not fear you, Boyce. I know you too well. I learned all your weaknesses along the way. I even added to them. The Hunter Boyce: What are you talking about? Gray Alys: I'm so sorry. Your fate was sealed when you met me. You were right, Boyce. Silver weapons were not enough. The Hunter Boyce: You poisoned me? Gray Alys: I had to put silver in your blood. The Hunter Boyce: Why didn't you just let me die? Gray Alys: Because dead things have no power. The Hunter Boyce: [Gray Alys holds knife to his throat] Wait, wait...! You- you have to grant my wish. You can refuse no one. Those are your words. Gray Alys: What do you wish for, Boyce? The Hunter Boyce: I want you. I want us to be together. I want us to hunt together, to fight together. Gray Alys: To find an end to all this loneliness? The Hunter Boyce: Yes, you want it, too, I know it. Gray Alys: I refuse no one. But there is a price to be paid. The Hunter Boyce: Name it. Anything. Gray Alys: Very well. [moon becomes uncovered and she plunges knife into Boyce] Gray Alys: [shoves a fur skin into Jerais] Take this. Tell the queen to cut herself, to drip her own blood onto the skin and wear it. Tonight will be the end of the lunar cycle. She must do it before the end of night. Then the power will be hers. Jerais: Wolf skin? Gray Alys: The skin of a shapeshifter killed in its lair. Jerais: Well, Gray Alys, you have done what she asked of you, but you have failed me. I did not pay you for success. Now, give me my timepiece back. Gray Alys: No, Jerais. I've earned it. Jerais: But I did not get what I asked for. Gray Alys: But you got what you wanted. Jerais: And what is that? Gray Alys: The queen herself. There was a man, the father of her child. You wanted her, but knew he stood in your way. I have changed that. Jerais: Who was this man? What was his name? Gray Alys: His name was Boyce. The Queen: No! She killed Boyce! No, pleaseǃ Jerais: It could never have been. The Queen: What are you talking about? Jerais: He was a beast. The Queen: Beast? What do you know of it?ǃ Jerais: He twisted you. You changed. The Queen: You did this. Jerais: I did what I had to do. I protected you. The Queen: You betrayed me. Jerais: No, no. I- The Queen: You had him killed. The father of my child! Pleaseǃ No! Jerais: I would do anything for you. The Queen: [stabs Jerais] Then die for me. [embraces fur skin] I did this for you, Boyce. So we could be together, hunt together. The Hunter Boyce: [holds out shotgun] So, how'd you like my story? Gray Alys: I still don't know how it ends. The Hunter Boyce: Maybe with me skinning you alive, just like you did to me. Gray Alys: I'm not sure I like that ending. The Hunter Boyce: Too bad. Gray Alys: I knew you were the queen's lover. The Queen: [in flashback] Don't leave yet. The Hunter Boyce: You know what I am. I can't stay here. The Queen: You said the only woman you could truly love would be someone like you. The Hunter Boyce: You are not that. The Queen: But what if I could be? [in flashback with Gray] I want from you the power to become a beast, Gray Alys. [drops timepiece into Gray's hand] Gray Alys: [voiceover] I knew that the queen's desires would lead to revolution. And that she would never wear your skin. [in current time] I knew you would live. The Hunter Boyce: You're lying. Gray Alys: Just like I know that'll misfire. [shotguns misfires] They say you can buy anything you might desire from Gray Alys... ...but it is better not to. [but she and Boyce attempt to cut each other throats but stop short] And isn't this what we wished for? [both ride off into sunset] Taglines From the director of Resident Evil and George R.R.
