Designing Woman is a 1957 film about a sportswriter and a fashion-designer who have a lot of adjusting to do when they marry after a whirlwind romance, and discover they have little in common.
Directed by Vincente Minnelli. Written by George Wells.
His world is guys and dolls! Her world is gowns and glamor!
Mike Hagen
[narrating] Liquor, I've found, makes me very smart sometimes.
[to Marilla] Why is it that you can't stand the sight of blood on anyone but me?
[about newspapers] They're not reading. They're holding them that way in case the blood spatters.
Open your eyes and go to sleep!
I'm going into the men's room now, to change into the bus boy's green pants.
Marilla Hagen
Our first night apart. I didn't know a person could be so miserable.
We never argue anymore. And when we do, it never lasts more than a week or two.
I'll never understand what my husband was doing shoeless in your apartment.
Other
Zachary Wilde: If I were you, I'd throw all of them out, including myself!
Ned Hammerstein: Just make sure your byline doesn't appear in the obit column!
Dialogue
Marilla Hagen: [Seeing the mess in Mike's lap] What's that?
Mike Hagen: Ravioli.
Marilla Hagen: Didn't you care for it?
Mike Hagen: Oh, no. It's very good here.
Mike Hagen: You're not crying...?
Marilla Hagen: I'm considering it very seriously.
Mike Hagen: So, what's for dinner?
Marilla Hagen: [realizing] Lori Shannon.
