Feast of Love is a 2007 drama film that explores the complicated, messy, and healing nature of romantic relationships within a tight-knit community in Portland, Oregon. Directed by Robert Benton. Written by Allison Burnett. Based on the novel The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter. Harry Stevenson [first lines, voiceover narration] There is a story about the Greek gods. They were bored, so they invented human beings, but they were still bored, so they invented love. Then they weren't bored any longer, so they decided to try love for themselves. And finally they invented laughter, so they could stand it. Yeah, we have our illusions about people, our hopes, and they can blind us. But the end is always right there in the beginning. Dialogue [about getting the dog for Kathryn] Bradley Thomas: What do you think? Harry Stevenson: I think I'd proceed with caution. [talking about getting the dog at the humane society for Kathryn] Bradley Smith: You know what I feel like doing? I feel like just driving over there and grabbing the little guy before somebody else gets him. Oscar: So just do it, though, you know? Go for it. Bradley Smith: Yeah? You think? Oscar: You only live once. [short pause] Probably. Bradley Smith: What's making you smile like that? Margaret Vekashi: Looking out the window An unusual man. An innocent man. An open-hearted man. Someone who has given tremendous love but never had it returned. Not in the way he deserves.
