Toy Story 5 is a 2026 American animated comedy-drama film and a sequel to Toy Story 4. It is the fifth installment of the Toy Story film series and about Jessie assuming the role as the leader of Bonnie's toys while facing the situation of every children's current playtime today: technology. The sequel stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Greta Lee, Conan O'Brien, Shelby Rabara, Craig Robinson, with Scarlett Spears, and Mykal-Michelle Harris. Woody Toys are for play, but tech is for everything. [after unplugging the cord of Lilypad's charging dock from the outlet] Tomorrow morning, everyone will wake up, fully recharged... except Lilypad. [as Lilypad obeys Buzz's command to bring back the "horse girl" post on her screen] She has to do what you say! [reacting in shock when all the Hi-Tech Edition Buzz Lightyears are getting signals from Smarty Pants, Snappy, and Atlas] Oh, no, they're one of them. (Smarty Pants: They're one of us!) You make us proud to be toys, Jessie. [to Buzz] You got this, deputy! Buzz And by the way, everybody, Zurg is our dad. Jessie [as she and Bullseye see all the kids in the neighborhood playing on their technology devices from the rooftop of the Jordan twins' house] Look at 'em all. All on devices. [then gazes down at Bonnie] Except for Bonnie. No wonder she can't make a friend, Bullseye. She's the only one out there still playing with toys. Don't worry. We're safe. Buzz, you know me. I'm the definition of calm. [while having a communication chat with Woody through walkie-talkies] You remember my first kid, Emily? The one I told you about who gave me away? (Woody: Of course I do, yeah.) It feels like that all over again. First we were playing… and then the world started changing. Emily changed and then… just like that… my time with her was over. Now I'm losing Bonnie to this device. [gazing around what used to be Emily's old house] This is where it all started. It's all changed. I am done with this techno mumbo jumbo. No offense, but I'll be fine getting back on my own. (Smarty Pants: Offense taken!) [looking around Blaze's bedroom, which used to be Emily's] (Atlas: Seriously, how much have we missed?) Everything. Your Blaze ain't the kid you remember anymore. (Snappy: How would you know?) I've seen all this before. Spent a lot of years under the bed, watching my first kid grow up without me. [losing control of her rage; furiously yelling at Smarty Pants] BECAUSE OF YOU! BECAUSE OF ALL YOU DARN DEVICES! MAKING KIDS ACT OLDER! YOU STOLE ALL OUR TIME! I WANTED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! I NEEDED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! AND YOU RUINED IT! [pushes him] I'm sorry, Smarty. It's not you. I'm the one that's useless. [after finding a photo of an adult Emily kissing her daughter on the tire swing] Emily named her daughter... after me. Bonnie's growing up. And we don't get to decide when and how that happens. All that matters is we were there at the right time to help her along. And I gotta believe we were. [after kissing Buzz] You're stuck with me, deputy. Voice box Friends forever, partner. Giddy-up there! Time's a-wastin'! I ain't afraid of nothin', partner! Yee-haw! Let's play! Dialogue [Flashback to a long time ago, at the tire swing tree…] Emily: [writing her name and address in the back of Jessie's left chap] There. This way, you'll never lose me, Jessie. [yanks the pull-string on her back] Jessie: [voice-box] Friends forever, partner. Emily: [giggles] That's right, partner. But don't you worry. I'll keep a good eye on you. [gets on the tire swing] See? I'm still watching. [Bonnie hides behind a tree, seeing the Jordan twins returning home across the street…] Jessie: Psst. Dolly, what's going on? Dolly: [sighs] Not sure. You know, at first I was mad Bonnie drew these glasses on me, but honestly, I can see so much better now. Jessie: Dolly, focus! Dolly: Oh! Sorry. It's the Jordan twins. They're back home. Buzz: Poor thing. She's still afraid to ask them to play. Jessie: Not this time. [stealthily rolls towards the fence and pushes herself through the slots, then pulls the pull-string on her back; voice-box] Giddy-up there! Time's a-wastin'! Mrs. Anderson: So, how'd the wedding go? Mr. Anderson: Who murdered the maid of honor this time? Bonnie: [somberly] Mom? Dad? Mrs. Anderson: Yeah, sweetie? Bonnie: Why won't anyone be my friend? [Jessie and the other toys gasp in shock] [Jessie and Bullseye sneak over to the Jordan twins' house and see them sitting on the sofa, playing on their own devices through the basement window] Jessie: Why, they're… they're both just sitting there. Doin' nothing. They ain't playing with toys at all. Captain Suds: What, you didn't hear? Jessie: Uh, n-no, I… I didn't hear. Captain Suds: She didn't hear. Turtle Sandbox: She didn't hear? Jessie: What? What didn't I hear? Captain Suds: The age of toys is over, lass. Jessie: What do you mean, "over?" When did that happen? Turtle Sandbox: It's been happening for years. Where have you been? Jessie: [stammering] Across the street, playing. Abandoned Toys: Playing? Plush Doll: Oh! Your kid still plays? Plush Doll #2: I don't remember play. Describe it to me. Jessie: Are you guys okay? What happened to you? Abandoned Toys: Tech! Robot Toy: Devices! Transitron: Everywhere, devices! Rabbit Drummer: Phones! Tablets! Shark Rocket: Computers! Cameras! The screens just took over! Jessie: Jumpin' jelly beans! Will y'all just settle down? Now, I'm gonna have some words with this Lilypad and and let her know how things are run around here. Buzz: Try to stay calm, Jessie. Jessie: Buzz, you know me. I'm the definition of calm. [tosses Bullseye up to the bed in anger jumps on it to confront her] Buzz: Eh, it's not gonna work. [Jessie approaches the tablet who was sleeping] Lilypad: [wakes up] Hi! Jessie: [surprised] What the...?! Lilypad: Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you, sleep mode ya know? No? Ah, forget it. Was just gonna hop on the charger, battery could use a little refresh... [Jessie sneaks into the closet to have a conversation with Woody through walkie-talkies] Woody: [holding Dr. Nutcase after rescuing him] Jessie, hey. What's going on? Dr. Nutcase: Curse technology! Woody: Hey, quiet down. Dr. Nutcase: [through walkie-talkie] We're all just landfill now! Jessie: Woody, is it as bad out there for toys as they say it is? Dr. Nutcase: [wrapping his arms around Woody's waist] Beware the machines! [Bo Peep, Duke Caboom, Ducky, and Bunny pull him away] Woody: Yeah. Yeah, it's bad. We're finding more abandoned toys each day. Why? Are you guys okay? Jessie: Not really. Tech's invaded our house too. Woody: [through walkie-talkie] Oh, no. Jessie: [gazing at Lilypad resting in her charging dock on Bonnie's nightstand through the bifold] Yeah, her name's Lilypad. Looks like a frog, but really, she's a leech, [through walkie-talkie] sucking up all of Bonnie's attention. Making her stare at her screen all day. There's got to be some way to stop it. Woody: [stammering] I don't know, Jessie. Uh… Toys are for play, but tech is… it's for everything. Jessie: [sighs] You remember my first kid, Emily? The one I told you about who gave me away? Woody: Of course I do, yeah. Jessie: It feels like that all over again. [voice-over during a flashback] First we were playing… and then the world started changing. Emily changed and then… just like that… my time with her was over. [Fade back to the present] Now I'm losing Bonnie to this device. Is it me? Am I just no good at being a toy? Woody: Jessie, you're a good toy. Jessie: I don't know. Woody: Jessie. [Bullseye wakes up and sees a red light through the closet door bifold, hearing voices] Buzz: [rehearsing his proposal to Jessie through the mirror; inhales] Okay. Jessie… [clears throat] No, Sheriff… Sheriff Jessie, I appreciate this promotion, but what I'd really like to promote… No, that is so stupid. [sees Bullseye approaching the closet through the reflection] Jessie: But she got Bonnie invited to a sleepover in seconds. Woody: Jessie, you know Bonnie better than anyone. What does your gut say? Jessie: That it can't be that easy. Woody: Mm-hmm. Jessie: Bonnie won't click with just anyone. Woody: Exactly. Jessie: She needs to actually meet these girls. She's not like most kids. Bonnie plays different. She… She needs to play. Woody: Jessie? You still there? Jessie: You're right, Woody. Toys are for play. [through walkie-talkie] And play is how she'll find the right friend. Woody: Okay. Jessie: The age of toys may be over, but I'm gonna do something useful before I go. I'm going to that sleepover, and making a real friend for Bonnie! Forky: Why are you wearing a dress, Woody? Woody: It's called a poncho, Forky. Thought I'd change it up. Smarty Pants: [looks inside the junk drawer and finds Snappy and Atlas resting in there] Snappy! Atlas! They're still here! Oh! Bossy cowgirl, we have to turn them back on! Jessie: [aggressively] No! No way! The last thing this world needs is more devices. [starts to close the drawer] Smarty Pants: What, what, what? You're just gonna shove 'em back in the dark forever? Do you have any idea what that's like?! Jessie: [having to have heard those words before; sighs in reluctance and annoyingly makes up her mind] Fine. We gotta make this quick. Smarty Pants: [laughs] Yes! Number one! You made number– [Jessie shuts him up in annoyance and inserts more batteries into Snappy and Atlas, activating them] Smarty Pants: Wait, wait, wait, wait. So you're saying that this was your room, too? Jessie: Yes. Smarty Pants: [scoffs] Really? [Snappy and Atlas chuckle] Jessie: What, you calling me a liar? Smarty Pants: No… Yeah. Yeah, liar. Jessie: [storms over to him, sighing angrily, and points her finger at the ceiling] There's a knot in the ceiling, looks like an angry eye when you squint at it. [then points to a window with a small crack in the upper right-hand corner] Window's got a small crack, like a spider in the upper right-hand corner. [then points at the other window, where the tire swing hill is in the distance] And out on that tire swing hill, Emily and I would play every summer afternoon. Now, Bullseye, let's go! Smarty Pants: [annoyed] Uh, you're welcome. Jessie: For what?! You didn't help me at all! You were-- Smarty Pants: What? Go on. Say it. Jessie: Useless! [Smarty Pants, Snappy, and Atlas all gasp in complete shock] Snappy: Oh, snap! Atlas: Oh, no, she didn't. Buzz: Where's Jessie? Where's Bullseye?! Lilypad: I'm a little busy helping Bonnie right now. Woody: What on earth happened at that sleepover?! Lilypad: Excuse me. What are you? Are you like some sort of old man toy? Woody: What? Forky: She thinks you're old because you're bald, Woody. Woody: [turns back to Lilypad, insulted] Why, you little-- Buzz: Where's Jessie?! Woody: What happened to Bonnie?! She looks miserable! Lilypad: Uh, the girls may have played hide-and-seek and, um, forgotten to find Bonnie. Dolly: [gasps in shock along with the other toys] Poor Bonnie. Woody: How could you let that happen?! Lilypad: I didn't. You toys did this! These girls have been on The Pond for over a year, but Bonnie is behind because all of the time she's been playing with you! I need to bring her up to speed fast, starting with Turtle Tag. It's the quickest way for her to connect with the girls. Buzz: I'm only gonna ask one more time, frog! Where is Jessie?! Lilypad: Not my problem. I'm very busy. Woody: [attempting to climb up the nightstand; reaching his breaking point] That's it. We'll make her talk. Buzz: I'll do it, Woody! Woody: Buzz, no! [Woody and Buzz hide under Bonnie's bed while she's playing with Lilypad] Woody: [comforting Buzz as he gazes at Bonnie's suitcase, feeling worried about Jessie] Don't worry, Buzz. We're gonna find her. I promise. Buzz: [sighs] Woody, I know it's just a pretend ceremony, and Bonnie usually decides these things, but... Well, if it were up to me, you'd be my best man. Woody: [gasps in surprise] Buzz, I... I'd be honored. Buzz: [sighs deeply] But Jessie will never speak to me again now that I've let Lily take charge of the room. Woody: [getting an idea] Wait a minute. Take charge. Buzz: I tried to. Woody: No, no, no. Buzz, that's it! Buzz: What is? Woody: [sneaks over to the nightstand and unplugs the cord for Lilypad's charging dock from the outlet] Tomorrow morning, everyone will wake up fully recharged... except Lilypad. Buzz: And then we'll make Lily tell us where's Jessie. Rex: [exclaims worriedly] Are we getting donated?! Karen Beverly: Mmm, donuts. Forky: No, sweetie. "Donated." Wow. I love her, but this is gonna be hard. [As Bonnie and her mother get in the car before driving over to Blaze's house to get Jessie and Bullseye…] Woody: All right, Buzz, you've got to stay here. I'm going with them. Buzz: Why? Why just you? Woody: Look, I just have more field experience than you that is all. Buzz: You don't think I can do it. Woody: No, I just think I can do it a little bit… [short pause] better. Buzz: [gasps] You don't deserve this. [rips the other star sticker off Woody's vest and puts it on his chest] Woody: Buzz, come on. I was only-- Buzz: Jessie put me in charge. Woody: Which is why you should stay here and watch the room. Buzz: There is no room without Jessie. [runs over to the back of the car] Woody: Buzz, no! [groans and hurries after him and they both hop onto the rear bumper] Buzz: [glaring annoyingly at Woody until his poncho gets in his face] Nice poncho. [looks away, scoffing] Mr. Potato Head: [as the garage door closes] It's good to see them fighting again. Slinky: [agreeing] It sure is. [Bonnie and her mother arrive at Blaze's house] Jessie: Thanks, fellas. Pretty glad I met you devices. Smarty Pants: Ah, don't be dumping us something you can't flush. Jessie: [gasps as she hears the doorbell ringing] It's her! Mrs. Manoukian: [answers the door] Hello. Can I help you? Mrs. Anderson: Hi. I'm so sorry to bother you, but we got this message from your daughter. She seems to have found my daughter's toys. Are they in there? Mrs. Manoukian: Oh, okay. I'll have her get 'em. Blaze! Honey? Blaze: [offscreen] Yeah? Mrs. Manoukian: Can you bring down those two rag dolls you found? Their owner's here. Blaze: Okay! Smarty Pants: That's our cue. Mrs. Manoukian: Blaze, this is, uh… Mrs. Anderson: This is Bonnie. Mrs. Manoukian: Hello, Bonnie. Blaze: Hi. Are these your toys? [holds up Jessie and Bullseye] Bonnie: [dejectedly] I don't play with toys anymore. It's just their antiques. Blaze: They do look pretty old. Must be worth something at least, right? Bonnie: No, they're not. You should keep 'em. [Woody, Buzz, Smarty Pants, Snappy and Atlas all react in complete shock] Smarty Pants: Oh, no. Mrs. Anderson: Bonnie, you don't want them? Are you sure? [Bonnie sadly runs back to the car] Bonnie? Bonnie! I don't know what's come over her. I'm so sorry to have bothered you. Mrs. Manoukian: It's all right. Blaze: If you ever change your mind, Bonnie, just let me know. Jessie: [gasps] Come on, Bullseye! Quick! Before they drive away! [grunts] It’s... It’s too late for me, Bullseye, but maybe not for you. Please, not for you. [Bullseye blusters] Jessie: [grunts, breathing heavily] [Bullseye whinnies] Jessie: [sighs] Smarty Pants: Sheriff? Snappy: Jessie? A-Are you okay? Atlas: W-What just happened? Smarty Pants: She ditched you, Jessie. Jessie: [turns to Smarty Pants; losing control of her rage and yelling at him] BECAUSE OF YOU! BECAUSE OF ALL YOU DARN DEVICES! MAKING KIDS ACT OLDER! YOU STOLE ALL OUR TIME! I WANTED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! I NEEDED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! AND YOU RUINED IT! [pushes him] Smarty Pants: Ow. Jessie: [gasps] Atlas: Smarty, you okay? Jessie: I’m-I’m sorry. Snappy: Are you hurt? Did you crack? Smarty Pants: I’m fine. I’m fine. [sighs] For a rag doll, you throw quite a punch, cowgir... Cowgirl? Smarty Pants, Snappy and Atlas: [gasp] [Bullseye whinnies] Snappy: Jessie? Jessie: [whistles] Smarty Pants: Uh, Sheriff? Jessie: [heartbroken] I'm sorry, Smarty. It's not you. I'm the one that's useless. Smarty Pants, Snappy and Atlas: [gasp] [Bullseye blusters and whinnies] Smarty Pants: [gasp] Bullseye! Buzz: [to all the Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes] Wait! He is not an agent of Zurg. Hi-Tech Edition Buzz: Well, then, who's this old man? Woody: [stammering] Why do people keep saying that?! I'm not that old! Buzz: This old man is a toy. Hi-Tech Edition Buzz: Hmm. A toy? Buzz: Yes. We are all toys! Our mission on this planet is to make a child happy. To play! Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes: To play. Play. Woody: Hey! Buzz, can you help me… [gets his head inside Jimmy Dean's mouth; muffled] get out of the mouth of this pig?! Buzz: Search your feelings, Buzz. You know it to be true! And the red-haired maiden you seek is our toy leader. Her name is Sheriff Jessie. Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes: Sheriff Jessie. Buzz: [points out at Blaze's house through the barn window] Sheriff Jessie is trapped inside that stronghold. We must infiltrate it and rescue her and her trusty steed. Hi-Tech Edition Buzz: How do you know all this? Buzz: Because I… [puts on the star sticker] am her deputy. Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes: Star Command. Hi-Tech Edition Buzz: Then this old man is a toy? Woody: [muffled] This pig has bad breath! Buzz: Oh, yeah, him. You can untie him. And by the way, everybody, Zurg is our dad. Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes: No! No! [sobbing] Buzz: Yeah. [Woody, Buzz, and all the Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes sneak stealthily into Blaze's house…] Mrs. Manoukian: [to her daughter] Hey. What's on your mind? Blaze: [concerned about Bonnie rejecting Jessie and Bullseye] I don't know. I just hope that girl's okay. Mrs. Manoukian: Aw. She'll be fine, sweetie. Mrs. Anderson: Bonnie? Did something happen with your friends? [Bonnie nods her head] Can you show me? You're not in trouble, Bonnie. I promise. [reads the cyberbullying group chat on Lilypad, then comforts her daughter] Oh, sweetie. You know that you can always talk with me and Dad, right? About anything. Because we love you, Bonnie, so much. I wouldn't change a single thing about you. And I think a real friend would feel the same. Don't you? [Lilypad watches this and reacts with remorse and shame, realizing she made a major mistake] But how about we take a break from the group chat for now. Okay? Let's get some ice cream. Jessie: [after Bullseye finds her at the tire swing tree] Bullseye. You shouldn't have followed me. Oh, bad horse. [sighs] You go back to Blaze's, Bullseye. You're better off. [Bullseye stomps his hoof on the ground in refusal] I'm serious. She'll take good care of you. And all those horses… [Bullseye blusters, scoots a little closer to her, and stomps his hoof on the ground again, whinnying in refusal; sighs] Bullseye, no. I'm not going with you. I… can't do this again. I can't… love another kid just to find out I never mattered. [sadly breaking down] I… I can't. [Bullseye gazes at something on the tree and nudges Jessie to see; they step around and look at a carving on the trunk reading: "Jessie was here" and an arrow pointing downward at the base] I didn't write that. It must have been… [sees something glistening and she and Bullseye move a little closer; brushes the dirt off the surface and gasps] Emily? [whistles for Daffodil] Daffodil, dig! [Daffodil steps forward and digs out what is revealed to be an old metal lunchbox with a picture of horses on the lid; opens it and finds a collection of old momentums] Wait. This ain't stuff from Emily. It… It's newer. It doesn't make any sense. She wouldn't have any of this stuff. She'd be… [opens up a birthday card and finds a photo of an adult Emily kissing a young girl on the tire swing] all grown up. [looks at the daughter] Wait. [turns the photo around and finds a note reading: "Jessie, you will always be my little cowgirl. Mom"; gasps in surprise] Emily named her daughter… [drops to her knees] after me. [turns the photo back over, gazing at the daughter smiling at her mother's kiss; turns to Bullseye] Really? Smarty Pants: [reading the message from Lilypad] "Jessie, I'm so sorry. Chose wrong friends. Hurt Bonnie." Woody: Oh, no. Buzz: Bonnie. Jessie: Smarty, send a reply. "You can fix it." [The reply is sent and another message appears] Smarty Pants: [reading] "No, I can't. Threw myself away. On donation truck." Jessie: What?! Jumpin' Jehoshaphat! Now she throws herself away?! [groans] We're going after her! Buzz: What? Woody: But how? Jessie: Smarty, tell Lily to send a photo of where she is. Snappy: Got it. Jessie: Snappy, zoom in on that blurry road sign. Smarty Pants: Well, look at you with that tech talk, cowgirl. Snappy: Martin Avenue. Jessie: Atlas, can you get us to that truck? Atlas: Already mapped it, cowboy lady. Jessie: Tell Lily to keep sending photos of where she is. We're getting her back! [Jessie and the rescue team jump aboard the donation truck and find Lilypad] Jessie: Lily! It's okay. We got ya. Lilypad: You shouldn't have come, Jessie. Jessie: Nuh-uh. No time for pity parties, Lily. Bonnie still needs you to make a friend. Lilypad: Me? But I… [scrolls through the Dance Girls' group chat on her screen] I made a major miscalculation with Kara, Chelsea, and Heidi. You were right. Bonnie's different. She deserves better. Jessie: Lily. You didn't know those girls were wrong for Bonnie. Lilypad: No, I'm wrong for Bonnie. I'm the one who caused this. Jessie: Well, then help me fix it. I found Bonnie the right friend. Lilypad: You did? Jessie: Yep. So, how about you and me connect them? Lilypad: Uh… Okay. Jessie: But first, we gotta get everyone off this truck and back home. Buzz: Now, this is flying. Woody: With style! Jessie: Yee-haw! So, we're clear on the plan? Once you're at Bonnie's, you send the message, Blaze brings me and Bullseye to the house, and this time, they connect! Lilypad: Jessie, wait. What if Bonnie rejects you again? Jessie: If they become friends, it's all worth it. Lilypad: Yes, Sheriff. Buzz: Huh? Wait. Jessie, wait! Jessie: What? What is it, Buzz? Buzz: [frantically] Just listen to me! I… I've been trying to ask you this, and if… if I don't do it now, I never will. [Jessie sees a truck approaching from the tunnel; struggling] Will you… Buzz, you can do this. Will… Will… Jessie: [grabs his hand… and kisses him; Lilypad plays fireworks on her screen] You're stuck with me, deputy. Bo: [whispering to Buzz after catching a bouquet of flowers] Congratulations! Woody: [giving Buzz a thumbs-up; also whispering] You got this, deputy! Bo: So, did you help? Woody: Yeah. We just followed Jessie's lead. [gets in the Skunkmobile] Bo: Woody, will you… [holds out the bouquet] Woody: Um… Bo: Hold these? I'll drive. [hops in] Duke Caboom: Ooh, la la. [They then drive away from the Anderson house] [Mid-credits; All the Hi-Tech Edition Buzzes land in the hands of their own new kids on the school playground] Teacher: Hey, you kids play nice! [a Hi-Tech Edition Buzz Lightyear lands in his hands] Ooh! [hides the toy behind his back] Hi-Tech Edition Buzz Lightyear: Mission accomplished.
