Operation Finale is a 2018 American historical drama thriller film, about a 1960 clandestine operation by Israeli commandos to capture former SS officer Adolf Eichmann, and transport him to Jerusalem for trial on charges of crimes against humanity. Directed by Chris Weitz. Written by Matthew Orton, based on several source materials including "Eichmann in My Hands" by Peter Malkin and Harry Stein. After World War II, the mission for justice began. Peter Malkin [to Eichmann] You think you're a ghost, but you're not. We are here to judge you. We are here to give you justice. He's a monster, but he's just a man. Others David Ben-Gurion: Our memory reaches back through recorded history. The book of memory still lies open. And you here now are the hand that holds the pen. If you succeed, for the first time in our history we will judge our executioner. And we will warn off any who wishes to follow his example. If you fail, he escapes justice, perhaps forever. I beg you. Do not fail. Dialogue [after the capture, Zvi Aharoni begins to interrogate Eichmann, while the team stand behind Eichmann's back] Zvi Aharoni: [takes the cover off his eyes] If you speak without being spoken to, you will be gagged. Open your eyes. [Eichmann opens his eyes. Aharoni takes off his jacket and puts it on a chair. He sits down opposite Eichmann] I want you to tell me your name. Adolf Eichmann: My name is Ricardo Klement. I'm a Jew from Palestine. Zvi Aharoni: No, you're not. Adolf Eichmann: I was born in Sarona, the German quarter. I know my prayers. Listen. Zvi Aharoni: Tell me your name. Adolf Eichmann: [begins saying the prayer] Shma Yisrael, adonai elohenu, adonai echad. You see. You've made a mistake. Drop me anywhere. Blindfold me. I won't tell anyone what you've done. Zvi Aharoni: [in Hebrew] Where did you live? Adolf Eichmann: I'll admit I'm a little rusty. Zvi Aharoni: You were born in Solingen in 1906. Your father was named Adolf. Your mother Maria Shefferling. Adolf Eichmann: I don't know those names. It's not true. My surnames Klement. Zvi Aharoni: And yet the boy you raise has the name Eichmann, does he not? Adolf Eichmann: His father died during the war. Zvi Aharoni: So, you let another man's progeny call you father. [pause] What is your current profession? Adolf Eichmann: Foreman. Mercedes Benz Factory. Zvi Aharoni: Current address? Adolf Eichmann: 14 Garibaldi Street. What is-- Zvi Aharoni: What is your wife's name? Adolf Eichmann: Vera. Vera Liebl. Zvi Aharoni: Who is your son Klaus's father? What is your name? Adolf Eichmann: [short pause] I am Ricardo Klement. Zvi Aharoni: So, you raise another man's child, but you feel only obligation, correct? Should something happen to him, like, oh I don't know, let's say he should suddenly... disappear tomorrow, a part of you wouldn't care? [pause] You once had a mistress named Maria Masenbucher. Did you not? Adolf Eichmann: Not that I recall. Zvi Aharoni: Well, that's interesting, because she gave us a picture. [Aharoni takes out and holds up an old photo of a young Eichmann in uniform when he was an SS Officer, on the back of the photo is the number "45326"] Zvi Aharoni: Do you recognise the man in this picture? Adolf Eichmann: [short pause, doesn't have his glasses] I can't see him clearly. Zvi Aharoni: [to his team] Who has his glasses? [the team look at each other, none of them do. To Eichmann] The man in this picture is you. SS number 45381, am I correct? [short pause, Eichmann does not respond] Again. Your number was 45381. [still no response] Your number was 45381. 45381. 45381! Adolf Eichmann: It was 4-5-3-2-6. [short pause] Enough. I accept my fate. My name is Adolf Eichmann. Adolph Eichmann: You know I tried to help. For years, I got your people out of the country. That was "my" solution. I wanted the Jews sent to Madagascar. Peter Malkin: Yes, dying of malaria is nicer than poisoned gas. Very thoughtful of you.
