Douglas Daniel Clark (March 10, 1948 – October 11, 2023) was an American serial killer and necrophile. Clark and his accomplice, Carol Mary Bundy, were collectively known as the Sunset Strip Killers and were responsible for the deaths of at least seven individuals, although they are considered suspects in the deaths of several other women and young girls. Clark was charged with six murders in Los Angeles, California, and was convicted in 1983. Clark's victims were typically young prostitutes or teenage runaways. His victims were decapitated, and their severed heads kept as mementos. Quotes about Clark and Bundy Reportedly, Clark was striving to fulfill his fantasy of cutting the throat of a woman during intercourse to feel the contractions of her vagina during death spasms. . . . Two . . . victims, 15 and 16-year-old prostitutes, Clark killed at the same time. While one girl was orally copulating him, he shot both of them. Returning to his home with them, he had oral, anal, and genital sex with both, one of whom was dead and the other near death. Jack Levin and James Alan Fox, Mass Murder: America's Growing Menace (New York: Plenum Press, 1985), ch. 6, pp. 74-5 Carol dropped several bombshells for the jury, including the fact that Doug had given her a pair of bullets with which to make earrings. She also told of Doug's claim that he had taken Exxie Wilson's head in the shower and masturbated with it. She thought it was a fantasy, she said, going on to explain that another of his fantasies was having a young woman straddle him while Carol shot her in order for Doug to feel the death spasms. Louise Farr, The Sunset Murders (New York: Pocket Books, 1992), ch. 25, p. 252 Bundy went on to say that she had paid the hooker to give Clark a blow-job as a birthday present, but claimed that it was agreed that he would give her a signal as to when to shoot the prostitute in the head. Douglas Clark vehemently denies this, arguing, ‘No, man, I don’t care who he is. Who would let a half-blind bitch reach over, shoot at the head of a hooker suckin’ his cock and hope like hell she didn’t blow a hole in his knee or chest? I mean, what if her jaw locked shut?’ Christopher Berry-Dee, Talking with Serial Killers: The Most Evil Men in the World Tell Their Own Stories (London: John Blake, 2003), p. 287 While there was no evidence to support Bundy’s claim that Clark was a necrophile, there was strong evidence to say that she was. She had admitted to having her tongue in the anus of Jack Murray when she fired the bullets into his head. . . . When her Datsun car was stored after it had been released from the police pound, a letter was discovered which seemed to have been missed during the first police search of the vehicle. In Carol’s handwriting, and signed ‘Betsy’ . . . the letter contained sexually explicit details of vaginal death spasms. She continued by describing . . . how Doug had taken the severed head of Exxie Wilson from the freezer and into the shower, where he performed oral sex with the icy remnant. . . . The severed head had become a solid block of ice, as both Bundy and the police confirmed, when it was discovered, and it took several days to thaw out. When interviewed, Clark said, ‘The cops said it was froze solid, and Bundy says the same fuckin’ thing. The jaw was locked shut. So how do you get a penis into that mouth? Give me a fuckin’ break, will ya?’ Christopher Berry-Dee, Talking with Serial Killers (2003), p. 294 Without any doubt, Doug Clark was a fool. He most certainly was an accessory after the fact, in the case of Jack Murray, for he has admitted he was with Bundy when she threw her former lover's head out of the car. And Clark was certainly present when Bundy shot a hooker through the head as she gave him oral sex in a car. He did not report this murder either, which would have bought at least a life sentence when he was arrested. . . . There is little evidence to contest the view that it was Bundy and Murray who killed at least five of the Sunset prostitutes, following which, Bundy, spurned and inducted by her lover and accomplice in serial sexual homicide, killed and decapitated him in a fit of jealous rage. . . . Doug Clark distanced himself from Bundy at this time and, in an act of spite, she turned him in. Casting herself in the role of the State’s only — and totally untruthful — witness, she engineered a life sentence for herself and a death sentence for Clark.
