Byankin
How many songs were composed during this war...
Domeshek
One of us was killed too when we were surrounded. By a bag of pea puree. They dropped it from a plane... to the spot! At war as at war.
Dialogue
Shcherbak: Well, we have a commander... We'll have enough with him.
Byankin: My first one was the same. And now he commands a regiment.
Shcherbak: I also had a commander... a good guy, a kind-hearted person. He would line us up and start cursing us with various expressive words. And at the end he would add: "When I quit drinking, I'll coming for you!"
Byankin: Did he drink a lot?
Shcherbak: No more than others. He just had a saying like that.
[Domeshek twirls a can of stew in his hands]
Maleshkin: No, no! An emergency supply!
Domeshek: Comrade lieutenant...
Maleshkin: Banned by regulations!
Byankin: Eh, lieutenant! You never know, they'll kill us, so why let it go to waste?
Shcherbak: And if they don't, we'll manage somehow.
Byankin: [prepares to open the can] Well, lieutenant?
Maleshkin: Well, come on!
[Maleshkin approaches a group of fellow officers]
Lt. Cheginichka: The big boss is coming... [loudly reporting to Maleshkin] Comrade Corps General! The regiment is ready to march in full force!
Maleshkin: [in a menacing General's voice] Adjust your headdress, you slob!!! At ease!!!
[Domeshek educates infantrymen]
Domeshek: Hello, comrade soldiers! Congratulations on your arrival to the glorious crew of Guards Junior Lieutenant Maleshkin! What, have you forgotten how to respond? When the commander greets you in the ranks, you must express your admiration and elation. And how does a soldier express his elation? He expresses it with a loud triple "hurray"!
Shcherbak: (in a low voice) It's good that you were kicked out of the officer school. You should have skinned the soldiers five times.
