thumb|Martyrdom of Philemon and his wife Appia Philemon was an early Christian in Asia Minor who was the recipient of a private letter from Paul of Tarsus which forms part of the Christian New Testament. This letter is known as Epistle to Philemon, although it is addressed "to Philemon, our dear friend and fellow worker, also to Apphia our sister (possibly Philemon's wife) and Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church that meets in your home" (Philemon 1:1-2). Paul asks Philemon to "take back" Onesimus (Philemon 1:12), who may previously have been his slave. Quotes about I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers, hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints, that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother. Paul of Tarsus in Epistle to Philemon 1:4-7 NKJV. (About Onesimus) If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me. But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account. Pauk of Tarsus in Philemon 1:17-18 NKJV.
