She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly of South Africa for five terms from May 1994 to May 2019. Between 2005 and 2019, she served as a deputy minister in the national governments of four successive presidents. After leaving the National Assembly, she was special investment envoy to President Cyril Ramaphosa until her death in March 2021.
