Quotes
Traditionally, Siamese boys have been educated in Buddhist [monasteries], and more than 77 per cent of the local public schools, and 23 per cent of the government schools, are located in monasteries.
Encyclopaedia Americana (1952) quoted in Ram Swarup, On Hinduism (2000)
“Thailand needs more than book fairs in Bangkok. Books should travel to schools or malls, offering free reading activities. Without this outreach, books remain inaccessible,” [Pincha Lekpetch, owner of Reangrun Publishing] said. …[Shopworker and mother Keerati Boonpradit said,] “If the government can give out cash, why not free books for [children]? It would make a huge difference.”
"Rural Thai children face a reading crisis through little access to books" (December 17, 2024)
