Jessica Lucy "Decca" Treuhaft (née Freeman-Mitford, later Romilly; 11 September 1917 – 23 July 1996) was an English author, one of the six aristocratic Mitford sisters noted for their sharply conflicting politics.
Quotes
O grave, where is thy victory? Where, indeed. Many a badly stung survivor, faced with the aftermath of some relative’s funeral, has ruefully concluded that the victory has been won hands down by a funeral establishment.
The American Way of Death (1963), ch. 1
Cf. 1 Corinthians 15:55
According to one of my correspondents, Jessica Mitford was overheard to remark, "I have nothing against undertakers personally. It's just that I wouldn't want one to bury my sister."
Quoted in the Saturday Review (1 February 1964). Reported in J. M. and M. J. Cohen (eds.) The Penguin Dictionary of Modern Quotations (1971), p. 159
