thumb|Giuliano Ferrara in 2008 Giuliano Ferrara (born 7 January 1952) is an Italian journalist, television presenter, and former politician. He is the founding editor of Il Foglio. Born into a communist and anti-fascist family, Ferrara took part in the student movement of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1973, he joined the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and carried out political activity within the PCI, and at the same time dedicated himself to journalism, collaborating with Corriere della Sera since 1982 with the column "Bretelle Rosse". Later in the 1980s, he joined the Italian Socialist Party (PSI), with which he became a member of the European Parliament (1989–1994). Yes, Berlusconi entered politics to prevent them from taking his stuff away... He tries to prevent his business and his freedom as an entrepreneur from being stolen from him together. La Stampa, 25 Ferbuary 1994, quoted in Peter Gomez, Marco Travaglio, Le mille balle blu, BUR, Milan 2010, p. 1948. ISBN 978-88-58-60465-6. Dear Biagi, don't be a martyr, spare us the usual charade [...]. She campaigned with everyone's money, even center-right voters [...]. When you spread conformist incense she is always first. Moving Il Fatto to another time won't be like violating a virgin or slaughtering a lamb on the altar of information. From an open letter to Enzo Biagi published by Panorama, 1 February 2002. Hypocritical and arrogant, Enzo Biagi calls anyone who studies his place on the schedule an idiot... Biagi is a sacred monster of his business and a hypocrite. He says he wants to continue to be the witness of his time, telling stories, and not the protagonist of a personal case. Meanwhile, however, he blows on the fire, narrows down any space for mediation, aims for the martyr's charisma, and gives breath to the trumpet, or rather the trombone: they chase me away, they move me from the 'miò orario, they are liberticidal. And arrogant: in fact, Biagi says that it is a stupid behavior to move his program to Rai1 by a comma or an hour, and he treats the gentle Fabrizio Del Noce with contempt and unbearable arrogance. This sacred monster of his business should learn to be more parched with adjectives, insults, political hysteria. When he was denied the correspondence of Indro Montanelli at the 'Corriere della Sera', preferring Paolo Mieli who is less of a pain in the ass than someone whose horizon is the usual thousand chambers in which he watched History on the move, in turn allowing himself to be watched by her, Biagi did not call Ferruccio de Bortoli, director of the newspaper [established] on Via Solferino, much less Cesare Romiti, an idiot his publisher, the one who passes him the mesata as happens to us all and who puts the capital to produce and spread the tribune of his memories. He just negotiated another place on the schedule, asking that his strictly personal, and strictly provincial, colors end up on the front page on Sundays. With jubilation superior to that of the readers, perhaps. Even the time of his rubrichina is far from his. It's ours, because we pay. And of those who administer RAI by the will of Parliament (a surreal fact, because RAI should be privatized and there we would see if a Murdoch would truly leave the little man in white who washes whiter in his place for 41 years). In addition to all that space on the schedule it is Berlusconi's, as usual and as everything is now in Italy, because it is on his flagship network, Canale 5, that the news program Radio Londra aired before Il Fatto, at that exact same time, but preceded not by the first Italian news program but by the quiz show Tra moglie e marito. Even the time signal of the columnist-martyr, whose opinions are, as Francesco Merlo writes, 'indifferent', is therefore copied. Other than his. Biagi, we defend him and we will defend him if anyone wants to kick him out because they dislike the government, but if he kicks himself out out of greed for heroism, after 41 years in which so much greed has been lifted, with all the regimes, then that's his business... It's Biagi who hunts alone for sinister shop interests" . Il Foglio, 23 May 2002. If they kill me, remember that the linguistic instigators are Antonio Tabucchi and Furio Colombo, in competition with each other. (Referring to Sabina Guzzanti) She wasn't censored, poor thing, she's sick because she's ignorant, but she wasn't censored. From the TV programme L'infedele, La7, 22 November 2003. Ecco, secondo me è questa seconda cosa. [...] I think every now and then it takes a few slaps for this kind of naughty girl. [...] The element of the scam is the one that strikes me the most. There hasn't been and hasn't been until now –if there is, I'll tell you– a censorship by RAI and the bad guy Berlusconi against Guzzanti's satire. There was a clear attempt to gain censorship from Guzzanti, who associated satire, that is, her profession, with another pester, that of the "de paese" and "de borgata" political rally, the violent, harsh one, in which she also ran away with the famous expression "Jewish race," because the girl is very ignorant. And... this is not nice. If there was censorship, it dates back to Rai 3 director Paolo Ruffini, who had second thoughts on Sunday afternoon, November 16th, then decided to broadcast it, and it went on air without any problems. After that, the president of RAI, appointed by the left, Lucia Annunziata, unanimously decided with the rest of the board of directors that, before broadcasting anything, they want to know what it is. Also because otherwise they get sued and above all they do the public a disservice. [...] Look, I make a newspaper that a third of the time is satire, I'm guilty of vilification every day. It's all about it: is there style or is there no style? Is it something done to communicate with the public and be honest with oneself or a professional disloyalty and an attempt to gain political advantages from a contract with RAI? Now, in my opinion it's this second thing. [...] The thing I'm sorry about is the violation of the sacred canon of the actor's profession. What does an actor do? An actor plays a part, he does satire – Guzzanti didn't invent satire, by the way: Alighiero Noschese did too, I mean; if someone invented it, they invented the commercial television of the hated Berlusconi, who revamped Italian television and opened up new spaces of freedom for it. One does satire, period. If someone wants to campaign for their party through satire –as happened with Daniele Luttazzi–, they no longer go on television. Very simple: it's not censorship, it's rules, healthy rules. Primo piano, RaiTre, 24 November 2003. Relativism is a form of secular dogmatism, because to claim that there is no absolute truth is to claim an absolute truth. Tempi, 28 April 2005. No, no, [l'Unità] non è un giornale libero, credo che l'unico modo di definirlo è un foglio tendenzialmente omicida! No, no, [l'Unità] is not a free newspaper, I think the only way to define it is a predominantly murderous paper! From the TV programme Porta a Porta, Rai 1, 30 October 2003, quoted in Rachele Gonnelli, Diffamò l'Unità, Giuliano Ferrara condannato, l'Unità, 8 July 2006. I consider myself a loyal, intelligent, witty, mischievous and rather handsome man. My self-esteem is directly proportional to my weight. A, 20 January 2007. Satire is a product of ideology and culture, proceeding from books to the street to the stage in a circular fashion. There is a raw, coprolalic satire that has been expressed and continues to be expressed, with better or worse results, in all languages, in many situations, and in many political regimes, both ancient and modern. This is an appeal to the good consciences rejoicing over the moratorium on the death penalty in the world, which was voted on yesterday at the UN by 104 countries. Let's rejoice, and let's have a moratorium on abortions. [...] we condemn in principle the legal suppression of a human being without looking at his motives, which in some cases, in many cases, are having inflicted death on others. Good, bad in fact. The billion or more abortions performed since legislation permitted the famous voluntary termination of pregnancy concern legally innocent people, created and destroyed by the mere power of desire, the desire not to have them and to hate each other to the point of amputating love. It is the supreme scandal of our time, it is a catastrophic wound that tears deep into the fibers and possible enchantment of modern society. It is beyond everything, in many parts of the world where abortion is sex-selective, and becomes genetic profile-selective, an ideological masterpiece of racism marching with the force of eugenics. Let us therefore rejoice at the top of our hearts, and after having promoted the Little Moratorium let us promote the Great Moratorium of the slaughter of the innocent. Mockery is accepted, because good consciences know how to use the weapon of sarcasm better than bad ones, but also adherence to an appeal that speaks for itself, enlightenedly, with absolute and truthful evidence of the facts of experience and reason. A journalist who must express his opinion and jiggle every day, who must wield the anti-veritative tool that is TV, where everything or almost everything is equivalent and entertaining-in short, the ideal type of mentalist of our time-may well have hidden somewhere in his liver, his bowels, his psychism, so as not to bother with the word heart, an unquenched taste for the meaning of things and people. So it happens to him, like many others who perhaps tend to take better care of form and yet also curl up a little in good manners, to bring out that taste, which is not only aesthetic or theoretical, but spiritual, and the game of brother embryo, sister freedom or double moratorium is over. You find yourself on the sacred front of life without even knowing exactly how you got there. Condoms are the viaticum of abortion. There was a media campaign in front of millions and millions of viewers in which a magistrate, Luigi De Magistris, insinuated that Mastella is "a criminal." And he did it from Santoro in front of millions of applauding Italians who want moral cleansing, sputtering him beyond all plausible limits in his absence. We want, very simply, to combat the ideas that have declared love and good humor heretics, and to debase modern existence in a chaos of unsatisfied desires, thinking that with the help of technology we can solve the problem of happiness bequeathed to us by the barbaric totalitarianisms of the twentieth century. The truth is that from day one the moratorium is this: not a crusade against 194 under the banner of Cardinal Ruini, but a crusade against abortion as a right legitimized by moral indifferentism in the West, a cultural campaign that recognizes without pretense the good that came from the fight against clandestine abortion, and the tragic final outcome of peaceful and comfortable coexistence with one billion abortions in thirty years and fifty million abortions per year. Behind the violent intolerance of a moment lies the mild, creeping farce of universal tolerance. This is the scandal. .*Panorama, 18 December 2009. Violence is always the product of the night of politics, of a whole-is-permission that puts to sleep civil sensibilities and the responsibility of reason. Panorama, 18 December 2009. Craxi had a zest for life, a genuinely rebellious spirit, and an unwillingness to indulge in the laziness that makes the bureaucratic nature of political struggle ugly and boring. [On his new program on Raiuno] I may be, I'm not saying professional, but passably an asshole. As a revered teacher I learned many things, but I have not lost my disgust. Ferrara: «Sarò passabilmente stronzo», ilpost.it, 26 February 2011. Nuove elezioni sembrano l’unico sbocco realistico. The need to restore to some comprehensible meaning a chaos that swallows up the functioning capacity of government and the institutional cycle is undeniable. Berlusconi could play all other cards, of stabilization and political hegemony in the system. But its logic, triggered by the insanely provocative reception of its role and power through consensus, has returned to that of the transition from crisis to crisis. New elections seem like the only realistic outcome. Giuliano Ferrara: “Realisticamente, nuove elezioni”, ilpost.it, 31 July 2010. In his book "Political Writings," Kant writes: "The supreme leader must be just for himself and yet be a man. This is the essence of liberalism that the puritans and the moralizing Jacobin Robespierrists never understood, which is why they cut off so many heads and created a world of terror. [...] "The state that wants to implement individual happiness or collective morality by coercive means – writes the German philosopher– does not achieve its goal and becomes an oppressor." He changed his perspective, position, idea. Riccardo Barenghi, quote din Claudio Sabeli Fioretti, 'Riccardo Barenghi, Corriere Magazine, quoted in Interviste.sabellifioretti.it, 28 April 2005. E' contrario all'aborto. Giuliano Ferrara has such character that he never goes to reserve. It ignores most of the human race, but loves all the embryos that make up its broad root without distinction. It praises the war in the East and South of our West. He is not moved by the collateral victims of bombing who usually die in the center of the bombing. But it is capable of sobbing in memory of dispersed blastocysts. It's against abortion. He'll campaign on it all, handling it exclusively as if the rest of the world enjoys practicing it. Pino Corrias, Corto circuito, 20 February 2008. Giuliano Ferrara in tv: "È una guerra santa, lo capite?". Ha parlato l'ultimo Cavaliere del Santo Sepolcro ancora in vita. Ma statte zitto, dicono a Roma. Giuliano Ferrara on TV: "It's a holy war, do you understand?" The last surviving Knight of the Holy Sepulchre spoke. But shut up, they say in Rome. Giuliano Ferrara, in addition to working for the CIA, was a minister and spokesman for the first Berlusconi government, as well as editor of two Berlusconi family newspapers, Il Foglio and Panorama: with what credibility can he comment on or interview Berlusconi and his opponents? Marco Travaglio, La scomparsa dei fatti, il Saggiatore, Milano 2006. ISBN 8842813958. The recruitment of Ferrara and (perhaps) Sgarbi to the Rai schedules is good news, because it adds two non-trivial voices to the television offering. Those who can't stand them (and there are many of them) will be able to make up for it with the final weapon of every teleuser: changing channels. His arrogant character, his spirit of provocation and his unscrupulousness are at times unbearable. But he is not a man who makes choices for trivial interests. Piero Fassino, quoted in Sabellifioretti.it, Sette, 1 November 2001. [On Giuliano Ferrara's role in the student movement] He was with us, a photo testifies: he was running away during the charges. He says he is repentant, that if he went back he would not participate. Emanuale Macaluso, quoted in Claudio Sabeli Fioretti, Emanuele Macaluso, Sette, quoted in Interviste.sabellifioretti.it, 29 May 2003. I don't think his "conversion" is any indication: among the communists as well as among everyone, there were those who obeyed the leader and those who obeyed ideas and the heart. The former, anywhere in the world, often make money and careers, the latter not rarely a bad end. That's all: one must know one another and know which side one is on. Piero Colaprico, Repubblica Milano, 19 September 2009, p. XIII. Non è grasso, è pieno di sé. He's not fat, he's full of himself. Daniele Luttazzi,Luttazzi Contro Tutti. Among the best editors I've ever had, especially for this crazy idea of making a futurist, surrealist newspaper with great cultural clarity. Pasquale Chessa, quote din Claudio Sabelli Fioretti, Pasquale Chessa, Sette, quoted in Interviste.sabellifioretti.it, 12 September 2002. You're arrogant, you're bossy, your broadcasts give everyone who watches them an ulcer. It's shameful that people like you alone can speak on television. People are sick to see you. [...] It's not like you can be called ignorant by someone who took money from the CIA and brags about it, did the most aberrant things in his life, including being a die-hard communist, had clubs in his car, convinced workers to make denunciations about their colleagues, a person who has a frankly undignified past by my standards. I'm not coming here to be insulted by Giuliano Ferrara. Sabina Guzzanti, L'infedele, La7, 22 November 2003. "And the big one is done," said Ferrara's mother when she gave birth. Roberto Benigni, Tuttobenigni 95/96. "All fat dripping," as Ferrara says when he sweats. Roberto Benigni, Tuttobenigni 95/96. I once saw on television, there was Previti, Ferrara, and Ignazio La Russa; oh, I thought it was an episode of Star Trek. Roberto Benigni, Tuttobenigni 95/96.
