Cosmas Indicopleustes

thumb|Should one...examine...the question of the Antipodes, he would easily find them to be old wives' fables. Cosmas Indicopleustes (Koine Greek: Κοσμᾶς Ἰνδικοπλεύστης, lit. 'Cosmas who sailed to India'; fl. c. AD 550), also known as Cosmas the Monk, was a merchant and later hermit from Alexandria in Egypt. But should one wish to examine more elaborately the question of the Antipodes, he would easily find them to be old wives' fables. Topographia Christiana, bk. 1, sec. 20 (tr. J. W.
