In Israel, the 1980s and early 1990s were marked by a core of c.15 young Birdwatching birders, among them Y. Baser, A. Ber, A. Ben Dov, E. Dovrat, Y. Golan, O. Horin, R. Mizrachi, E. Shochat and myself. From a European perspective, activity mostly centred on the migration hotspot of Eilat in the south, to which thousands of birders flocked each spring. The Eilat International Birdwatching Centre was founded in 1984, but prior to that the above-mentioned observers made casual visits to Eilat, mainly between summer and winter, especially to study Bird migration migration and to find Vagrancy (biology) vagrants.
