Quotes
Alhamdulillah! My task has been that of leadership, and one among equals, with the body being played as campaign organization. First, we have the general membership that cut across the three senatorial districts of the state, with some prominent politicians, party elders, commissioners, and National Assembly members. But, there have been about 14 directorates that coordinated all the activities throughout the campaign period. With these, we worked so hard to earn the voters’ trust and the elections culminated into a landslide victory for All Progressive Congress (APC) at all levels. We gave our president the much needed number of votes, with a wide margin of over 400,000 votes against the PDP candidate, as well as winning the three senatorial seats, six House of Representative seats, the governor and 23 out of 24 House of Assembly seats.
Interview response to the question 'As Director General Campaign Organization in Yobe, how were able to coordinate the campaign?'
Nothing more than the unprecedented performance of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, because in every part of the zone, particularly in Potiskum town, you would see the presence of government in the provision of roads, schools and hospital that were rebuilt and upgraded and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Some of these structures, especially the ones in Potiskum General Hospital, have been in deplorable state for over 30 years and no government had made effort to salvage them until the coming of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam. A state of emergency was declared on the sector and the entire system overhauled. Also, his Excellency, the governor had provided dividend of democracy to people in the zone and this is what they saw and voted massively for the APC in 2019 general election. As I once heard President Muhammadu Buhari said that: “Every change in the society is the clear reflection of the leadership in that society. This is exactly over what happened here in Yobe.
Interview response to the question 'Yobe south has always been the comfort zone of PDP in the state, how were you able to reclaim it?'
Of course there must be challenges being that I am going to a new level of governance. I have been in the administration of local and state governments for quite a number of years. Now, moving to the national level to contribute my quota as a Representative I am only happy because I am going to a place where Nigerians would benefit from my service. Not only my constituency, I would legislate to affect the lives of people in the country. This, I believe, Allah will help me. Also, with my background as one time pioneer Majority Leader of Yobe State House of Assembly in the Third Republic, when Yobe was created.
Interview response to the question 'You won a House of Representatives seat. As first timer, how prepared are you in meeting up with the challenges?'
First of all, you should know that there are laid down rules of electing or selecting the leadership of the National Assembly. So being part and parcel of the assembly, I must participate them. I would take part in the politic per se to contribute my quota as a follower to support wherever our party directs us to do so because the supremacy of the party is paramount than any personal interest. Whoever decides to run for office, I will analyse him to see if he has the interest of party and the party’s support because, I would not support anyone with personal ambition. We all secured our tickets under the platform of our great party and that party has leadership to make decisions for our collective success. So, all I will support is a candidate with my party’s support. I always hold on to the belief that, whatever direction my leaders take I will follow it.
Interview response to the question 'Given that your party needs leaders at the National Assembly who will support President Buhari, are you going to participate?'
I will advise him to concede to our son because Yobe and Borno is one and the same thing. Dr Ahmed has gotten the nod of the party as well as the president. I expect Ndume to respect the party’s supremacy and decision to queue behind his brother’s ambition with full support. I know Ndume as disciplined person for long and he has displayed that in both chambers of senate and House of Representatives. Ahmed Lawan is his brother, let the challenge come from somewhere else not from Borno. The northeast is in a situation of sober reflection. Whatever Dr Ahmed will do for Yobe, equally with their support, he will do it for Borno, Adamawa and other northeastern states. I think he should succumb to the will of God. The voice of the people is the voice of the almighty Allah. Let him drop this ambition of his and join hand to fulfill his brothers ambition. We the people of Yobe are calling on Ndume to support the ambition of one of our own, for us to build that ambition of rebuilding the northeast.
Interview response to the question 'Senator Ndume, has been reported to disagree with the party’s choice of Ahmed Lawan, what would say?'
