Gladiator II

Gladiator II is a 2024 film and a sequel to Gladiator about former Roman general Lucius who is forced to enter the Colosseum and must look to his past to find strength to return the glory of Rome to its people when his home is conquered by the tyrannical Roman emperors. Directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Scarpa, Peter Craig and David Franzoni. A Ridley Scott film. Lucius "Hanno" Verus I remember that day. I never forgot it. The day that a slave could take an emperor. What does my past matter, when my future is only to die as a gladiator? This is about survival! Survive! [Referring to killer rhinos] All together, and when it charges, break for the wall. I was owned. Now I will control an Empire. I will not waste another generation of young men for their vanity. Is this how Rome treats its heroes?! TELL ME! If his life has no value, what are yours worth?! I've become well-versed in losing the things that I love. But now that I have found you, I have no desire to lose you again. Wood or steel, a point is still a point! Where we are, death is not. Where death is, we are not. The gates of Hell are open night and day; smooth is the descent, and easy is the way. But to come back from Hell and view the cheerful skies, in this the task and mighty labor lies. (quoting Virgil) [To fellow gladiators] Strength and honor! [They all raise their swords to him and repeat in unison] A man does not become emperor by bloodline alone. It must be taken by force and kept by force! Are you such a man as this? [Last lines] Speak to me, Father. Emperor Geta The gods have SPOKEN! Macrinus You will be my instrument! Do you hear that crowd? The greatest temple ever built. The Colosseum. Because this is what they believe in. Power. That rage is your gift. Rome will fall. I need only give it a push. The best revenge is to become unlike the one who did the injury. I have made myself unlike... your father; he spoke of dreams, I speak of truth. And the only truth in my Rome is the law of the strongest. I was owned by an emperor. Now I control an Empire. Where else but in Rome can a man do that? I shall deliver them Caracalla's head and the people shall acclaim me. That, my friend, is politics. Lucilla [Holding out a jewelry ring to Lucius] This ring belonged to Maximus. I now give it to you. What is the dream of Rome, if its people are not free? Dialogue Macrinus: Where were you born? Lucius "Hanno" Verus: Why does my past matter if it is my future to die for you in the arena? Tell me what use have I for Roman money. Macrinus: A gladiator can buy his own freedom. His liberty. Lucius "Hanno" Verus: The Roman dream. Macrinus: No, the slave dreams not of freedom but of a slave to call his own. Cicero. Lucius "Hanno" Verus: Is that what you were raised on, Macrinus? What did you have to do for Roman money? You promised me a head. Macrinus: Earn your keep and you can have anyone's head. Macrinus: Whose head could I give you to satisfy this fury? Lucius "Hanno" Verus: The entire Roman army. Macrinus: Too much. Lucius "Hanno" Verus: The general will do. Ravi: The odds are against you. Lucius "Hanno" Verus: The odds are always against me.
