Quotes
I Clare, servant of Christ, little plant of our holy father Francis.
"Foxes indeed have dens," he said, "and the birds of the air nest, but the Son of Man," that is, Christ, "has nowhere to lay his head" (Mt 8:20, m)a bent his head made the spirit (Jn 19:30).
From the first letter to Agnese of Boemia, quoted in Vita di Chiara d'Assisi, p. 120.
In the name of the Lord. So be it. Among the other benefits that as a gift from our Father of mercy we have received and receive every day, for which we must give greater thanks to his glory, there is our great vocation, for which the more we owe him gratitude, the more perfect and greater it is.
From the Testament, quoted in Vita di Chiara d'Assisi, p. 123.
Hold on to her sweetest Mother, who in the small cloister of her sacred breast gathered and in her virginal womb carried Him whom the heavens could not contain... It is now clear that the most worthy of all creatures, that is, the soul of faithful man, is by the grace of God greater than heaven. While heaven, in fact, with all other created things cannot contain the Creator, the faithful soul, on the other hand, and it alone, is his dwelling place and sojourn, and this only by virtue of the charity of which the wicked are deprived. It is the same Truth that assures him, saying: He who loves me will be loved by my Father; and I also will love him; and we will come to him and place our dwelling place in him. – As, therefore, the glorious Virgin of virgins bore Christ materially in her womb, you also, following your vestiges, especially of humility and poverty, in your chaste and virgin body can always, without any doubt, carry him, spiritually. And you shall contain in you the One by whom you and all creatures are contained, and you shall possess what, by comparison with all the transient goods of this world, is a far more stable and definitive possession.
Quoted in Michele Maria Iorio, I santi e la Madonna, Casa Mariana, Frigento, p. 8.
Quotes about
"Beautiful virgin, whom from the King of Heaven | Of the soul you had such pleasing gifts; | That 'the gentle blood, and the beautiful honest semblances | You despised, and this, which offends the heat, and 'the frost: | You with such chaste love, such true zeal | Vow of the noble heart made to him; | That you without pure temple, so you would take | The blessed bandages, and 'the sacred veil'.
Torquato Tasso, Rime.
Merciful God, then, raised up the venerable virgin Clare and kindled in her a very clear light for women; and you, most blessed pope [Alexander IV], placing her on the candelabra to give light to all who are in the house, moved by the test of wonders, ascribe her in the catalogue of saints.

Noble by birth, nobler by grace; virgin in body, purest in spirit; young in age, mature by wisdom; constant in purpose, burning with enthusiasm in love with God; full of wisdom and singular humility; Clear in name, clearer by life, most clear by virtue.

It is no wonder if, against the wickedness of men, Clare's prayer is heard, since it also burned demons.
