Quotes
Inorganic chemistry has several distinct parts: coordination chemistry, main group chemistry, borane chemistry, structural chemistry, cluster chemistry, and several other specialties. All of these subjects lead a life independent of the others, but bonding discussions figure largely throughout the discipline. It might be thought that a thorough training in academic inorganic chemistry is the best chemical basis for materials science; i.e., one should study the elements if one wants to use them. However, inorganic chemistry is a science, an academic discipline. Its objective is therefore to provide a feeling of understanding, irrespective of any pragmatic spin-offs.
