Astrochemistry is the interdisciplinary scientific study of the abundance and reactions of molecules in space and their interaction with radiation. Quotes About 99% of the ISM mass is in a gaseous state. As with the stars, most of these atoms are hydrogen or helium, with small amounts of other elements. In cold molecular clouds, most of the gas is in molecules like H2, CO, and OH with traces of more complex molecules like ethanol CH3CH2OH. The origin of these molecules is the subject of astrochemistry. The strongest molecular line is the millimeter line of carbon monoxide, and is used to map the distribution of molecular clouds in the galactic disk. Gutti Jogesh Babu Eric D.
