Quotes
“Because of the structural and systemic issues with our criminal justice system, not many women would come out to report cases of sexual violence because they just know that it would not work in their favour. There are very few cases of people who have gone through the process successfully.”
The Guardian
“The neo-liberal approaches to development that we adopted have led an impoverished population therefore it’s hard for one to say I am going to get married, have children and look after them. You find youth who should not be living at home with their parents are still there.”
Daily Monitor
“On a positive note, as a feminist and social justice actor, my heart was warmed to see more women that have been active in the women’s movement step out with boldness and courage to vie for political office. It confirms that feminist organising and undertaking social justice actions provide confidence and political experience.”
Daily Monitor
“It remains therefore, that revolutionising the patriarchal social norms, intensifying feminist leadership building programmes to boost women’s participation in politics, in addition to investing in positive media coverage and addressing political violence against women in politics will create an environment where women political leaders can navigate better towards their social, economic and political advancement.”
Daily Monitor
“The reason why women continue to be left behind is because of the social norms and traditional practices that do not recognise the rights and importance of women. We need to change these social norms and traditional practices towards an East African society that respects and recognises the rights and importance of women.”
