Derrick Keith Brew (born December 28, 1977) is a 2004 Olympic Gold medalist in the Men's 4 × 400 meter relay for the United States. Quotes I went to sleep at night singing the national anthem, I would sing the national anthem in the shower. I just couldn't get that song out of my head. (Going into the Olympics), I felt pretty good about my chances of getting a medal. I told my fiancée I was going to win the Olympics. I wanted to hear the song I had been dreaming about it for so long. I stood there (as the national anthem was playing) and thought about all the hard training that went into this, Then, I was thinking about all the people at home watching. I wish they could have been there with me. I was so happy. I was just very happy. That is where it all started, with coach Sands at Klein Forest, I played football and ran track at Klein Forest. Football was OK, but I really got into track. Coach Sands was a big reason for that..031 I missed going to state by one spot, That really motivated me for the following year. I came back, won the state meet, won the McDonald's Classic meet and the National Scholastic meet. I set the school record and the Southeastern Conference record in the 400 meters (44.29 seconds) at LSU. I was motivated for the Olympics. I was ready for the next level,I would actually go over to Greece in the summer just to get the experience. I was very excited with the first medal, That was something I had done as an individual. But the second medal also was nice. It was my fastest split ever and the fourth-fasted (alltime). I felt like I was running decent, but I didn't think I would run 43.6. When they called that out, I was happy with that. We were running pretty good. We won by 40 meters. It was the fourth-fastest time in history. In 2008, I plan to go after it again, I will be 30-years-old, but I think I still have time to do it.
