The Idea of You

The Idea of You is a 2024 romantic comedy drama film about Solène, a 40-year-old art gallery owner and single mom who accidentally meets—and falls for—Hayes, the 24-year-old lead singer of a massive pop band. Directed by Michael Showalter. Written by Michael Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt, based on the book The Idea of You by Robinne Lee. Dialogue Solène: [Hays has just agreed to purchase all the art in the gallery] This is real art, and these are real artists. They take their work very seriously, as do I. They made it with a great deal of care, and you're coming in here like--I don't know--like you're buying apples or something. Hayes: Honestly, I've been looking for art like this for so long, and-and I genuinely connect with it, and so... I-I would really like to buy it, if it's okay with you. Solène: [sighs] Okay. Okay. Hayes: And for the record, you have never seen me buy apples before. Eva: I'm leaving him. He obviously has no idea yet, but, um, yah, it's over between us. Solène: Um, why are you telling me this? Eva: Cuz I wanted you to know the truth. [Solene nods her head] Eva: Would you want to get Thai food with me sometime? Solène: No. Eva: Okay. Thank you so much.
