Taban Lo Liyong (born 1939) is a poet, academic and writer of fiction and literary criticism from South Sudan. He was born in Kajo Kaji, Acholiland, in the Equatoria region of southern Sudan but taken to Uganda at an early age. His political views, as well as his outspoken disapproval of the post-colonial system of education in East Africa, have inspired both further criticism as well as controversy since the late 1960s.https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Taban_Lo_Liyong&action=edit Quotes Art is arbitrary. First the writer chooses the theme and expounds on it. The reader is provoked to respond; silently or loudly, prosaically or poetically. https://www.scribd.com/document/881892816/Lecture-Xi?hl=en-US#:~:text=which%20only%20justifies%20the%20writer's%20gratification%2C%20thereby,The%20debate%20that%20ensues%20amplifies%20the%20theme I fell in love with words—the very sin my father hated to be my fate—and I built a burial mound in words. https://journals.co.za/doi/pdf/10.10520/EJC47776?hl=en-US#:~:text=Tell%20him%20I%20fell%20in%20love%20with,time%20for%20we%20have%20seen%20worse%20days. Life is hard for the last child who grows up lonely and whose loneliness grows in bulk to keep pace with him. The mind's empire is enlarged, and the heart can understand what it would never have condoned before. Toleration is the answer. References
