Sally Gross was a South African intersex and anti-apartheid activist. She was the founder of Intersex South Africa and campaigned for the recognition of intersex people in South African law. Her advocacy contributed to the inclusion of intersex within the legal definition of sex in South Africa's anti-discrimination legislation. She was also a writer and former Roman Catholic nun who later became a Quaker. Quotes My struggle ... is quite simply to be seen as a human being and not as a walking, talking pathological specimen. Transform In South African law, one needs locus standi, the right to address the court, to mount a legal challenge. University of Washington Since 2000, I’ve drafted amendments bearing on intersex for the Alteration of Sex Descriptions Bill and the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 2000, and these have been lobbied into law.
