Jo Ratcliffe

Jo Ratcliffe is a London based artist known for her kaleidoscopic animations, strange hand-drawn characters, and spindly scenes sometimes overlain atop live action footage. She is frequently commissioned by fashion labels and magazines to create art films, animations and editorials that appear both online and in print. Quotes “I have a curiosity about what photographs don’t do. What they leave out, their silence and the spaces they occupy between reality and desire.” https://mg.co.za/news/south-africa/1997-04-25-hit-and-run/ “When I’m photographing, I don’t know what it is that I’m looking at. I have to rely on my own way of seeing things and discovering meaning in the space, learning to read the space. And I think that’s much more interesting for a viewer, to have to come in and trust themselves " https://www.1854.photography/2022/04/jo-ractliffe-deutsche-borse-photographs-1980s-now-south-africa-angola/?utm External link Category: Living people Category: Women Category: Artists Category: Women from South Africa
