Allan Wesley Eckert (January 30, 1931 – July 7, 2011) was an American novelist and playwright who specialized in historical novels for adults and children, and was also a naturalist. Quotes The leader of the Indians rasped out a command and a long rawhide thong was looped around her neck. . . . Mrs. Fisher was led to a tree and the rawhide thong tossed over a low branch. One Indian held the woman up a couple of feet off the ground while two others tied the trailing end to another tree. Then she was released and the loop bit deeply into her throat. She kicked and thrashed and tore unavailingly at her throat while the Indians howled with laughter. The woman's tongue protruded, swelling ever larger and turning very dark. Apparently she bit it for blood ran from her mouth-corner and drooled down her neck. It was fully five minutes before she stopped moving and, though her bugged eyes were still open, it was obvious that she was dead.
