Sameen Agha
Born 1992 is a Pakistani contemporary artist known for her sculptural, painting, and installation works that explore the emotional and social concept of home, memory, identity, and gender. Agha’s practice has been widely recognized across the Asia‑Pacific art scene, and she was awarded the 2024 Sovereign Asian Art Prize — one of the region’s most prestigious contemporary art awards — for her sculpture A Home Is a Terrible Place to Love, carved from red marble.
Her artistic journey began in Lahore where she was born and raised. The early influence of her parents — both graduates of the National College of Arts — encouraged her initial engagement with arts and design. She later pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at the National College of Arts in Lahore, graduating in 2016. Agha’s works have been exhibited internationally — including shows in London and Hong Kong, and her pieces have been featured in major gallery exhibitions such as Catalyst at Indigo+Madder in London, where her installations further explored issues like loss, belonging, and gendered systems of identity.
Her work often uses materials like marble in ways that reflect strength and vulnerability, and she tackles challenging topics such as domestic conditions and gendered experiences, using visual forms symbolic of home and memory.
