Quotes
I had the privilege of serving as a Ward Councillor in eThekwini for five years, and I absolutely loved being on the ground working with residents. Much of that work involved addressing very practical issues – things like water supply, infrastructure failure, safety and municipal services. Being able to help people solve problems and improve their community was incredibly rewarding, and that experience really shaped how I approach public service.
I serve on the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, which deals with issues like identity documents, immigration, citizenship and the modernization of Home Affairs services. A key focus for the department, and something I am particularly interested in, is the digitization of Home Affairs systems, which has the potential to reduce corruption, improve efficiency, and make services far more accessible to South Africans.
My political journey really started at community level. I have been involved in the Durban North community for many years, and over time I became increasingly concerned about issues like service delivery, governance, and accountability in local government. That is what led me to join the Democratic Alliance. I believe strongly in the party’s focus on clean governance, accountability, and making government work properly for the people it serves.
The impact I hope to have is quite practical – making sure that government systems work better for ordinary South Africans. When departments function properly and services are easier to access, it makes a real difference in people’s daily lives.
