thumb|He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. The Gospel of Mark is the second of the four canonical Gospels and one of the three Synoptic Gospels. It narrates the ministry of Jesus from his baptism by John the Baptist to his crucifixion, his burial, and the discovery of his empty tomb. The gospel is traditionally attributed to Mark the Evangelist, a companion of the Apostle Peter. The author is not named, and scholars debate the identity of the author. Most scholars believe that Mark is the earliest gospel and was used by Matthew, Luke, and John. Quotes thumb|Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Chapter I John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. 4-5 (KJV) And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey. 6 (KJV) There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. 7-8 (KJV) And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him. 9-13 (KJV) And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him. And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils. 34-39 (KJV) And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter. 40-45 (KJV) Chapter II The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. 27 (KJV) Chapter III If a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 25 (KJV) But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, he is guilty of an eternal sin. 29 (KJV) Chapter IV He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 (KJV) A lamp is not brought out to be put under a basket or under a bed, is it? Is it not brought out to be put on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden that will not be exposed; nothing is carefully concealed that will not come out in the open. Whoever has ears to listen, let him listen. 21-23 (NWT) With what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you. 24 (KJV) Chapter V My name is Legion: for we are many. 9 (KJV) Clothed, and in his right mind. 15 (KJV) Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? 30 (KJV) Chapter VIII I see men as trees, walking. 24 (KJV) For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 36 (KJV) Chapter IX If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 23 (KJV) Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. 24 (KJV) Chapter X Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 14 (KJV) Chapter XII Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers. 38 (KJV) And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites. 42 (KJV) Chapter XIII In all the nations, the good news has to be preached first. 10 (NWT) Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 35-36 (KJV) Chapter XVI Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 15 (KJV) Quotes about Mark And Barnabas and Saul returned Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their ministry, and they also took with them John whose surname was Mark. Acts 12,25 (NKJV) Now Barnabas was determined to take with them John called Mark. But Paul insisted that they should not take with them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. Then the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus... Acts 15,37-39 (NKJV) They say this Mark was the first to leave for Egypt to proclaim the Gospel he wrote. Saint Eusebius of Caesarea.
