Kalmyks (Kalmyk: Хальмгуд, Xaľmgud; Mongolian: Халимагууд, romanized: Halimaguud; Russian: Калмыки, romanized: Kalmyki; archaically anglicised as Calmucks) are the only Mongolic-speaking people living in Europe, residing in the easternmost part of the European Plain. They are the only traditionally Buddhist people who are located within Europe. Through emigration, small Kalmyk communities have been established in Kalmyk Americans the United States, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Quotes …the Kalmyks were deported not to Central Asia where the climate was relatively better but to Siberia where they suffered more, and they were distributed across that region family by family so that they could not form the communities that allowed other deported peoples to survive (windowoneurasia2.blogspot.com/2022/02/stalin-treated-kalmyks-much-worse-than.html).
