Fawaaz Basadien (born 23 December 1996) is a South African soccer player who plays as a defender for Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns and the South Africa national team. Quotes It’s a privilege and honour to be recognised as the standout player in our whole team I also want to pay tribute to my teammates. They are the ones who help me on the field and help me stand out. As a footballer, you want to achieve these things. For me, I haven’t won many individual awards in the past, so it’s an honour and privilege as it’s shown that I’ve been consistent and done well throughout the season. It was a very good experience for the club, and for us as players. Obviously, it was the first time we were in the CAF, so it wasn’t easy We started quite slow, lost our first two games, but we knew as a team we can achieve something special, even though it was our first season We knew that we just needed to get one win... that will bring confidence all the way through the group stages We obviously want to finish third, so it’s important for us to get the victory. It doesn’t stop here,’ says Fawaaz Basadien after cleaning the floor at Stellenbosch FC awards, September 2025,IOL by Zaaiher Adams But then I got a call from Stellenbosch, and they made it clear that they really wanted me here. But now that I’m home, it is good mentally and helps a lot Being home also helps me to focus better, which develops me as a footballer more. The facilities that are accessible to us, and also their data analysis … They put a lot into the club. What I also like here at Stellenbosch is the diversity and unity at the club, and it is very welcoming. We want to try and improve on last year, and have a good couple of Cup runs, but the main focus is to do well again and compete for the top eight instead of fighting relegation, as in previous seasons. Being home helps me mentally, says Stellenbosch FC’s new recruit Fawaaz Basadien, September 2022,IOL by Zaaiher Adams External Links Category:Soccer players from South Africa Category:1996 births Category:Living people
