Quotes Being in this (head coaching) seat now, it’s much more physically exhausting and mentally exhausting. But the beauty of this position is that you get to compete every night and you get to coach the best players in the world. I wouldn’t want any other job. I’ll take the sleepless hours and do it every single day to get to coach basketball, coach 15 wonderful men and get to be a part of an organization like this. I’ll take the sleepless hours and the fatigue. It is much more exhausting, but I’ll get up every day fired up and ready to go. I’ve gone against a few former colleges and friends, but I try to not look at that (coaching) matchup at all, I’ve learned from Coach Karl and all that he’s accomplished. … I don’t get into (the coaching matchups) because for me it’s just about preparing our team to make sure they are ready to go. The amount of decisions that you have to make – it’s just daily and it’s in the game, away from the game and during practice, in my office and everywhere, But that’s the beauty of the position. You are trying to help your group and make the best decisions possible. You’re not going to bat 100 percent, but you have to trust your instinct. That’s one of the biggest things that I’ve had to lean on – my gut (feelings), my history and my experience – because the decisions are on the fly and they are instant. You have to be prepared.
