David Copperfield (1993 film)

David Copperfield is a 1993 Canadian animated feature film, originally airing on NBC, about the title character's adventures in his journey from infancy to maturity. Directed by Don Arioli. Written by Judith Reeves-Stevens, based on the novel by Charles Dickens. Mr. McCawber As William Shakespeare never said yikes! You must believe that something is going to turn up. Dialogue Aunt Betsey: I'm here! Clara: Aunt Betsey! Aunt Betsey: Where is she? Where's my niece? Doctor: Hehe, your niece? Aunt Betsey: Are you making fun of me? Doctor: Oh, no! Peggotty: Aunt Betsey, come see the little darling! Aunt Betsey: Ah yes, my darling little girl! [scoops up David] Peggotty: But... Aunt Betsey: I shall give her all that I have. In fact, I give her my name, Betsey Trotwood Copperfield. Peggotty: But... Aunt Betsey: [gasps] You are a beauty! I swear... You have my eyes! [to the others] Don't you think? Peggotty: Oh I agree, he does have your eyes. Aunt Betsey: He? Did you say he? Peggotty: I did. Doctor: She did. Clara: Say hello to your Aunt Betsey David. [David waves and gurgles] Aunt Betsey, Peggotty: David? Peggotty: Isn't he the sweetest thing? Aunt Betsey: No! I want a niece! [in Agnes's room within Duke Wickfield's palace, Agnes Wickfield chats with her boyfriend, Davy Copperfield, about her travels with her father around the world] Agnes Wickfield: My father and I went on an expedition to the Middle East and paid a visit to the sultan's palace. The sultan let us stay in for many nights. Too many, to be exact. David Copperfield: Well, that was nice of him. Agnes Wickfield: I was enticed by the belly dancers and the fire breathers throughout the whole country. They taught me how to do those things like that. And I became a skilled dancer ever since then. David Copperfield: I would love to see you do that. Agnes Wickfield: I'll dance for you. [Agnes goes to a private room, changes her clothes (taking her pink bow off of her head, etc.), puts on a belly dance outfit, and comes out, and then starts belly dancing in order to amaze Davy; Agnes then holds a torch, leans back, swallows the torch, takes a deep breath, and blows hard, as the fire comes out of her mouth] David Copperfield: [claps his hands] Bravo, bravo! What an extraordinary performance. Agnes Wickfield: Thank you, Davy. Murdstone: [singing] We've fixed the place up special, we've even polished off your chains. Look at all our smiling guests! Mr. Grimby: Not one of them complains! Murdstone: There's no reason we can't control the world's cheese market! Mr. Grimby: There isn't? Murdstone: No one can make cheese cheaper than Murdstone... and Grimby. Mr. Grimby: No one's thought of using free labour. Murdstone: Oh, others think of it, we do it! [scoffs] If only there wasn't the rent to pay. Mr. Grimby: If only. Murdstone: We'd have all the money we need to expand. Mr. Grimby: [rubbing his stomach] Expand? I love expanding! Except... Murdstone: Except what? Mr. Grimby: The Duke wants a fortune for the factory. Murdstone: Such a fortune is almost in my hands. Mr. Grimby: It is? Murdstone: Clara Copperfield's health is not improving. Especially since her boy... [produces and destroys letters] never answers her letters. [his bird yells in protest] Mr. Grimby: Naughty, naughty Mr. Murdstone. Murdstone: Merely good business Mr. Grimby. Soon our little cheeseworks will become... an empire!
