Khayelihle Piyele Zondo (born 7 March 1990) is a South African cricketer. He made his international debut for the South Africa cricket team in February 2018. In April 2022, he made his Test match debut for South Africa as a COVID-19 substitute. Quotes The only thing that really upset me was the disappointment. I felt the dream was within touching distance. I actually thought: ‘I’m here, I’m going to do this’. And then suddenly, it didn’t happen. That’s what disappointed me, not the players or management. I was told that the world owes you nothing, whether it’s right or wrong I then realised it is what it is and that it can’t be changed. The only thing I can do now is grow as a cricketer, no matter what happens. Captaincy helped my game. I now know I won’t go out and try to hack the ball. It helps me focus more, I like leading from the front Obviously I’d love to captain the Proteas one day. I think any player would like that privilege. But it has to be earned. You’ve got to make sure you’re a good leader and when you get there, you have to be tested. I can’t get there and learn on the job. Khaya Zondo: How I became a beautiful roast chicken,May 2017, The Citizens by Heinz Schenk We just need to apply ourselves, get really focused, make sure that we’re present at the crease all the time, Look a lot of guys are new to Test cricket, so there’s obviously new tricks, it’s a different intensity, guys are still trying to get used to that as well, so we just really need to focus on the ball and have all your soul and might there and give it your best shot. That’s what I would give to guys. Everyone has their own challenges and they’ve got to find a way to work through it. I did think that this year for anyone who was going to be in the national team it was going to be a tough year of international cricket, I mean the first series was in New Zealand, then it was Bangladesh, then it was going to England and now it’s Australia, so you’ve got some tough competition and it’s a good test to see if you can handle Test cricket as a player, and that’s for everyone whether you’re a batsman or a bowler. I do think most of the pitches the guys have got on have been quite tough. As a batsman in England, it’s tough. You’ve also got quality bowlers coming at you all the time whereas at franchise level you don’t have that. There’s also quality spinners and the guys in general are just ruthless in terms of how they execute their skills and their basics are sharp. You have to also be extremely watchful with how you bat as well in terms of the lines and defending your stumps We just need to apply ourselves” – Khaya Zondo,Dec 2022, Cricket Fanatics by Mohibidvhalid External links Category:Cricketers from South Africa Category:Living people Category:1990 births
