Thaksin Shinawatra

2012-01-27 thumb|Thaksin Shinawatra Thaksin Shinawatra (Thai: ทักษิณ ชินวัตร, IPA: [tʰáksǐn tɕʰinwát] (help·info); born July 26, 1949) is a controversial Thai politician who served as prime minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006 as leader of the now banned Thai Rak Thai Party. He was deposed by a military coup in 2006. Quotes I am a new and younger leader. So, I have no problems in admiring Dr Mahathir, placing him as a more senior leader in terms of political life, age and experience. I have admired him for many years, even before I entered politics. Thaksin said in an interview with New Straits Times Press group editor-in-chief Abdullah Ahmad at the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia (9 July 2003) Interview with World Policy I don't care whether I go back home or not. I just care how you can move our country forward, how the rule of law will be respected, and how the dignity of the Thai people must be respected. You cannot deliver what you promise to the people, you cannot solve the problem of the country if you're being controlled by the politburo and appointed senators. I think those who say that they are patriotic, they should be quiet and let the country run in a democratic way. In every election, if you don't like the government, you don't vote for it.
