Hanham variation C41 Philidor defence → Hanham variation → 7. Bxf7
7...Kxf7
Black takes the bishop. This moves the king away from defence of the queen: Black can tactically win it back, but only by giving back the bishop too, and White will be up a pawn.
8. Qxd8 discharges the tension between the queens. Black can take back via 8...Bb4+, discovering an attack on White's queen. White can defend the check and remove the queen at the same time: 9. Qd2 Bxd2 10. Nxd2. The queens and bishops are traded and White is still up a pawn.
If White avoids the queen trade, they are down a bishop for only a pawn.
