Dutch Variation D18-D19 Czech Defence Euwe Variation
6. e3 · Dutch variation
White opens up the light-squared bishop in order to recapture the pawn on c4. In doing so, the movement of the dark-squared bishop is temporarily restricted in the hopes to open it up later with e4.
6...e6 is played almost every time, looking to develop the dark-squared bishop to the b4-square, which has been weakened by White's choice to prevent b5 with 5. a4.
/6...Na6/ is a rare sideline called the Lasker variation, where Black tries to place their knight on b4, instead of the dark-squared bishop.
