Non-violent Crisis Intervention
The training is provided by the Crisis Prevention Institute.
This training offers skills to verbally and physically de-escalate situations that include physical threats and contact. The techniques involved included various ways to address verbal threats. These will hopefully reduce tensions before physical threats and striking out occurs.
If striking out begins, skills are offered for one or two staff members to manage a person who is striking out and to restrain them safely. These skills make it safe for the resident and the staff members. The restraint position leaves the resident in a position that is awkward but stable and has them unable to strike, kick or butt the staff. It is simple to learn and easy to practice.
