Expert Systems/Backward Chaining

Backward Chaining thumb|Illustration of backward chaining. In a backward chaining system, the inference engine selects a goal, and then attempts to find evidence to support or disprove that goal. If a goal is disproved, a new goal is selected and new evidence is searched for to support it.
