1... f6?!
After 1. f4, White takes control of e5 and prepares to build a strong center.
Responses:
2. f5 gains space and keeps the f-pawn advanced. May transpose into the King's Gambit Declined.
2. e4 builds a strong center and prepares rapid development and attacks.
2. Nf3 White develops naturally.
The main problem with 1...f6?! is that it weakens Black's kingside, especially the e7–h4 diagonal, and takes away the natural Nf6 development square. It also spends a tempo on a pawn move instead of developing a piece.
An independent line is 1. f4 f6 2. e4 e5, when Black has a strong central setup but has also created weaknesses around the king.
