Sicilian Defense: Najdorf Variation, English Attack, Anti-English Variation
Whereas in the dragon sicilian this move is a blunder, here it is totally safe to play it. The idea is simple: Prevent white from getting the English Attack setup by trading the valuable bishop on e3. There are two main variations:
7. Bc1 is sometimes used to quickly draw the game by repetition, since black wants the bishop and white doesn't give that bishop, repeating moves instead. It is however playable just fine, for example, black can continue with Nf6 Bg5 e6, transposing into another line.
7. Bg5 is the alternative: White wants to place the bishop on g3 and continue the setup normally.
7. Qd2?! allows black to get the bishop pair and gain an extra tempo. White doesn't score as well but it can be a surprise weapon at times.
