Custom Chess Theory Custom Chess Theory (read all) Custom Chess Theory allows players to create, organize, and document their own chess opening lines, variations, gambits, defenses, and experimental ideas. It is especially useful for opening lines that do not already have an established name, giving players a place to document their own theory without interfering with established chess openings. For example, a player can create the custom opening: Miloš Defense — 1. d4 d6 2. Nc3 e5 3. e4 The Miloš Defense is a custom opening line beginning with 1.d4 d6 2.Nc3 e5 3.e4. A Custom Chess Theory page can contain the complete move order, explanations of the opening idea, possible continuations, variations, strategic plans, tactical ideas, strengths, weaknesses, and example games. The goal is to let players build their own opening theory while keeping everything organized. Custom openings can have their own names and pages, but established chess openings should not be renamed. If a line already has a recognized name, that name should remain unchanged. Custom names should be used for genuinely custom or unnamed lines and variations. For example, Miloś Defense (named by me) can be listed as: Moves: 1. d4 d6 2. Nc3 e5 3. e4 if it's named, dont change it. If it isn't named, you can add your openings. You can create them at CustomChessTheory/AllCustomOpenings or in the openings itself. This should be a place where there is No speedy deletion for this reason: Not chess opening theory. or Vanity Page. Check Candidates for speedy deletion. From there, players can add different continuations and variations while keeping the original starting line unchanged. This makes it possible to develop a complete theory around the opening without confusing it with existing named openings. Custom Chess Theory is therefore a place where players can create their own openings, document new ideas, name unnamed lines, develop variations, and build a personal chess-theory database, while following clear rules that keep established chess theory and custom theory separate and organized. Opening Line categories: (custom) — Always used on Custom Chess Theory opening lines, probably also archived after a speedy-deletion nomination. (archive) — Used if the opening line was archived after a speedy-deletion nomination. (blunder) — Used if the opening line contains a blunder (??) (no review) — Used when an opening line probably should be archived after a speedy-deletion nomination but still needs review. You can add your openings in the opening categories at the bottom where the (CUSTOM OPENINGS) is (might not be on the opening page itself). Categories: (White First Moves) Unorthodox a3 a4 b3 b4 c3 d3 e3 f3 h3 h4 Na3 Nc3 Nh3 Flank c4 f4 g4 g3 Normal e4 d4 Nf3 Our goal: Name as many unnamed openings, variations, defenses, and gambits as possible while keeping chess theory organized. Aliases — Allow multiple custom names for the same opening line without creating duplicate pages. (max 10) Example Games — When available, users can add real games that demonstrate the opening or variation. Games should use legal moves and should not be presented as evidence if they are fictional or incorrectly generated. Response Map — Every Custom Chess Theory opening can include a list of the important responses an opponent can play after the named line. Each response can be marked with its own status, such as main line, alternative, sharp, solid, rare, or unexplored. This allows players to quickly see what can happen after the opening without having to read the entire theory page. Main Line — The primary continuation. Alternatives — Other reasonable responses. Sharp — Creates tactical or complicated positions. Solid — Leads to a quieter or more stable position. Rare — Unusual but legal continuation. Unexplored — A legal continuation that has little or no documented theory. Response Maps should be updated whenever new variations are added to the opening. Theory Notes — Add explanations, plans, traps, strengths, weaknesses, and important continuations. Verification — Mark whether the moves have been checked for legality. Status Tags — Use (custom) on Custom Chess Theory opening lines. (yours too) (archive) for opening lines, (blunder) for opening lines that have a blunder(??), and (no review) for opening lines that may need reviewing. Organization: When you name an opening, attach it to its first move category. If multiple names exist for the same line, such as 1.d4 d6, add both names to the same d4 page rather than creating separate categories.
