Possible Pitfalls Being a competent and effective Social Services worker requires empathy and advocacy. These same characteristics can appear to challenge the business and medical objectives for the client and the facility. It would easier if the medical staff could simply prescribe medications and not be concerned about their efficacy for a particular resident. Offering the same meals to every resident regardless of allergies, nutrition requirements and medical restrictions would make meal planning and preparation much easier. Having residents whose needs stayed the same forever would also simplify care. However, this is never the case.
