Meran variation D47-D49 Semi-Slav
7...b5
Black expands on the queenside and makes the b7-square available for their bishop while gaining a tempo on White's bishop.
White should retreat the bishop, there are three viable options:
/8. Bd3/ is the main line, returning the bishop to the square it was originally positioned on. From this square, it supports the e4 pawn-push and glances at Black's kingside.
/8. Be2/ is a more passive option. It can't be attacked as easily on e2 as on d3, but its also not as active in the attack.
/8. Bb3/ is the most aggressive option, keeping the bishop on the a2-g8 diagonal. White can generate a lot of pressure on the e6 and f7 pawns, possibly sacrificing a knight for the initiative. This option is not guaranteed if Black knows the theory well, so Black can come out with a slight edge if they are well prepared.
